A / N: For madridisimo 🏎️ Okay, so first I thought this would be an angry/fight story but I preferred this approach. Hope you like it too!
P R O M P T: "You're just drunk, you don't mean that!" & "Are you leaving me?"
You smiled when you heard the doorbell ring and you skipped towards the door to press the buzzer. The Friday night meet-ups with your friends were your favourite time of the week and it was the perfect way to relax after a few busy days at work and begin the weekend with some fun. You had been friends with the three boys and two other girls for years now, ever since you met in the first grade of primary school. Elise & Marisole hugged you first before you spotted the three boys who loudly laughed while stumbling into your apartment. "They started the pre-drinking at Charles' house already, so.." Elise said while she shrugged and you laughed, it wasn't the first time it happened.
You had stocked the table with some bottles of wine and beer already and everyone knew they could just help themselves to whatever they wanted. "So how is everyone doing?" You asked when you all sat down and the boys finally stopped laughing. Your eyes scanned the room and you smiled lightly when you crossed Charles' eyes for the first time tonight while listening to your friends' stories of the week. Marisole told you about the boy she had been seeing and everyone cursed when he turned out to be even a bigger dick than you already thought. Elise told about her job as a personal shopper for some rich and famous people and everyone looked at Charles, he was becoming pretty rich and famous himself as well.
The boys tried to tell a few stories but they were too tipsy to focus so they started laughing after a few drinks, no one really following what they were saying anyway. But you wouldn't want to have it any other way. These were the people that accepted you for who you were, who stuck by you when your parents left to move abroad and who supported every decision you made regarding your previous job even though it meant you had to sleep on their couches every once in a while. You couldn't think of life without them. After two hours of talking and having the best time, you stood up to refill your glass of water, you weren't really in a drinking kind of mood, when you heard a siren outside your apartment. You stepped out onto your balcony to see what was happening, but the sound travelled further down the street, so you couldn't really see anything.
"Hey.." You heard a soft voice behind you and you didn't have to hear anything more to know exactly who it was. His voice was really quiet but you would recognize it anywhere. You swallowed hard, trying to pull the imaginary mask on your face again. The truth was, you had a crush on Charles ever since he shared his lunch with you at school the first time your mom forgot to make your sandwiches. He had done it every time after that and it had given you your first butterflies. "Hey, how are you doing?" You asked him when he stumbled further onto the balcony and you pulled his arm to make him sit down. "Yeah, I'm alright. I think I had a little bit too much to drink though.." He answered and you chuckled while you sat down next to him. "Here, take this". You said, handing him your glass of water.
Charles smiled at you gratefully before he drank every drop of the liquid, wiping his mouth after he swallowed. "Good boy". You said while you patted his shoulder and you both laughed loudly. The next few minutes were completely silent, but it had never been awkward between you. You looked at the stars in the sky and the lights along the coast of Monte Carlo. You loved living here, even though you had to work your butt off the last few years to afford even the tiniest apartment in this city. "You are so beautiful.." Charles whispered. You froze and furrowed your brows, not really sure you heard that correctly and if you wear even meant to hear him say that. He was probably talking about the lights in front of you as well. But when Charles put his hand on yours that was placed on your knee, you finally started breathing again. Not that hyperventilating was a good way to get some oxygen in your lungs.
"What are you doing?" You asked Charles when his thumb started rubbing circles on your skin. You had been pretty close over the last few years, but you had never had the relationship to cuddle with each other or something like that so it wasn't like you were used to him doing this. "I think you are the most beautiful girl in the world.." He said again and this time you were certain you heard him correctly. "You're just drunk, you don't mean that". You said and you giggled, trying to pull your body a little further away from him, not wanting him to do anything he might regret when he was all sobered up in the morning. "No, I'm serious. I've wanted to tell you that ever since the first time I saw you. But I was always too scared. So if anything, we have to thank the drinks for that right now". You turned your body more towards him and you could see his eyes were focussed on your face. He didn't look as drunk anymore and he looked certain of what he was saying.
"I don't know if I believe you". You said and you let out a giggle to try and relieve the tension between you two a bit. He couldn't like you, that was impossible. You had never noticed him treating you any different than the other two boys did. 'Although he was always there for you when you needed him.. And he picked you up the second you got kicked out of your old apartment to let you stay over at his place.. And not to forget he shared his lunch with you almost every day at school..' You were still deep in thought when you felt Charles place his hand under your chin and you gasped when you felt his lips brush over yours. You slowly let your body relax when he wrapped his other arm around your body and he kissed you more firmly. "Please believe me". He whispered after he pulled back and leaned his forehead against yours.
You slowly nodded and Charles smiled before he leaned in again. This time, you were more prepared for the kiss and your eyes fluttered closed when you felt his lips on yours again. The butterflies that had been flying around your stomach for years now, turned into fireworks and you had never expected to be sitting here kissing one of your best friends like this. You felt tingles run up your spine when Charles placed his hand on your cheek and he opened his mouth to let his tongue run over the seam of your lips. You let him find yours and the passion you felt when you were kissing him like this confirmed your feelings for him once again. "Y/N? Can you help me for a second?" You heard Elise yell through the kitchen and you quickly pulled away from Charles before she would see you and you stood up to go help your friend.
"Are you leaving me?" Charles asked and you could see he was still very drunk, but his words and actions had confirmed that this wasn't just the alcohol talking. "I will be right back, okay?" You said before you leaned back over towards him and planted a loving kiss on his lips. Charles smiled and he nodded before you turned around to join your friend, who was trying to open a bottle of wine, not getting really far with a fork. "You know there is a bottle opener in this drawer, don't you?" You said, a little annoyed. "What has gotten into you? Did I interrupt anything?" She asked while finally pulling the bottle opener from the drawer. "Well, if you have to know.." You nodded your head while biting on your bottom lip, looking at your friend through your eyelashes. Elise placed the bottle back on the counter and started jumping up and down, cheering without making any sound to not alarm the others.
She wiggled her eyebrows and you gave her a playful push before you spoke up again. "I'm going back now if you don't mind. Please ask one of the others if you need any more help". You said and she nodded before she gently pushed you back to the balcony door. You spotted Charles in the exact same spot you left him in a few minutes ago and he smiled when he noticed you were back. "Come here". He said before he opened his arms to invite you into his embrace. You took your place next to him again and placed your head on his shoulder while looking out over the city. "I have liked you for as long as I can remember, y/n.. And I have been wanting to kiss you for a while now, but I couldn't get myself to do it. I didn't know if you liked me like that as well". You lifted your head off his shoulder and looked into his eyes before you leaned in towards him for the first time.
"I do.." You softly whispered before you let your lips brush over his again. "A lot".
