Lando Norris - "Wait, what did you say?"

P R O M P T: "Wait, what did you say?"

Monday evening movie night had been your tradition since you and your best friend were 14. You knew Lando since you were in preschool together and he was the one that stood up for you when you were bullied by the entire class for your ginger hair. Lando had always told you he thought it was beautiful and it made you grow to love it in the end. It was another Monday night and Lando had just returned from the Portugal GP this weekend. Even though he was really busy sometimes, he never skipped your tradition and you really appreciated the effort he put into your friendship. He had already chosen the movie to watch when you arrived and you were surprised to see a romantic comedy on the screen. 'Dear John' was one of your favourite movies, not only because of the gorgeous Channing Tatum but the storyline was so romantic and sweet.

"Are you sure you want to watch this? I thought you didn't like all that 'romantic stuff'.." You imitated Lando with air quotes and a joking face when you sat down beside him on the sofa. You had watched the Notebook together about a month ago and it had made him act all weird. He grabbed your drinks and a few snacks and you had rearranged the pillows and laid out the blankets like you always did. "I have never seen it before but you talk about this movie all the time so it must be good".  He said while letting out a chuckle and you shrugged. Lando pressed play and you scooted a little further towards him to get comfortable on the sofa. You thought he had been a little quiet ever since you arrived and you looked at him from the corner of your eyes while leaning against his side. His face was serious and he was concentrating on the movie. "That's one beautiful man, isn't it?" You said when Channing's face was all you could see on the screen.

Lando huffed and didn't respond. You turned your face to look at him again and his eyes met yours. You saw a little bit of annoyance on his face and you didn't understand why he reacted like that. You had talked about your celebrity crushes before and usually, he would just laugh about it with you. Something seemed different about him today. The movie was just about halfway when you needed to go to the bathroom. You grabbed the remote to pause it and walked towards the toilet in the hallway. When you came back, you sat back down next to Lando and looked at him while he was scrolling on his phone. "Lando.. Can I ask you something?" You said softly and he looked up at you before he nodded. "Is something bothering you? You seem a little distracted.." You saw his face drop and you knew you were right. Something was definitely bothering him.

"You know you can tell me anything, right?" You said and you let your hand rest on his knee. Lando seemed a little startled by your sudden touch which was weird because you often cuddled on the sofa on movie nights. He took a deep breath before he started to speak. "I have been feeling a little different lately. It has taken me a while to understand why and what had caused this but I think I finally know. It's just hard to say.." Lando said and his voice became quieter with each word he spoke. "Will you tell me, please?" You didn't like seeing him like this and you wanted to help him with whatever it was that was on his mind. "I think I like you.." He whispered and you could barely hear the sound of his voice. "I didn't hear y.." You started before you're brain comprehended what he had just said. "Wait, what did you say?"  You asked him with a shocked look on your face.

"I think I like you. No, I know I like you". He said, a little more confident this time. His eyes were looking down at your hand that was still on his knee and without even thinking about it, you softly squeezed it. You had liked Lando ever since he protected you from your bullies, but you had put that thought far away because you didn't think he would ever like you like that and you wanted to protect your friendship. "Can you please say something?" Lando said before you realised you had been quiet for a little while. "What made you realize?" You asked and he finally looked up at you. "I always knew I felt something when you and I were together, I just didn't know what it was exactly. But when I picture you being Savannah in this movie or Allie in the Notebook, I see myself as John or Noah.. I'm just scared that I'm ruining our friendship by saying this". He said and you could see that he meant it by the look on his face.

You felt the tears well up in your eyes when you heard him say those words and he softly cupped your cheek to wipe one away that had escaped already. "So that's why you acted different after watching the Notebook with me?" You asked and he nodded. "I realized I had feelings for you that night. I would do everything Noah did, for you". The tears started rolling down your face freely now and you let out a quiet sob. "It's okay if you don't feel the same about me.." Lando said and you realized you hadn't responded to him yet. "I like you too Lando, I always have. I had just buried those feelings really far away". You said when your eyes met his again. You saw a sparkle in his gorgeous green hues and his face had turned a deeper shade of red. You had thought about this moment countless amounts of times but when he finally leaned in, you're breath still hitched in your throat.

You felt his lips brush over yours before he closed the gap completely and finally kissed you. It was the softest, most gentle kiss ever and you treasured the feeling of his hands around your waist. You couldn't believe you were finally kissing him and it felt amazing. You felt the butterflies flutter in your stomach when his thumb rubbed your cheek slowly. "I'm so happy to finally be able to do that". Lando said after he broke the kiss and leaned his forehead against yours. "Can I do that forever please?"
