Josh POV
When I get to the club to meet Chris, he can tell that I'm upset, to say the least, and it was because she said anything that wasn't true.
"Let me guess Katrina again?" he says, and I nod
"I don't understand why she wants things to change so badly. Everything has been working fine for the last 22 years, and all of a sudden, I need to figure it out." I say ranting to Chris as we go into the club.
"Yeah, well, that's what happens when you fuck with her feelings. You also fuck the shit out of her every other week. She's a woman. She is a woman that you won't let date but then you also will not claim her. It isn't fair to her that you play with her emotions, and when she calls bullshit on you and everything you do, you say she is wrong," he says. I know he's right. I go to the office and Chris is right behind me.
"I know, I know, but there is just so much going on, and the last thing I need on my mind is her being kidnapped for something that we did. I love that girl and she knows that I just wish she would be patient and give me time." I speak. I call my overnight manager and ask them if they can come in for a meeting. Then hang up.
"Yeah, well maybe she is tired of being patient. You are 24, she is 23, and you have had enough time to make her happy. Instead, you have made excuse after excuse. Maybe she wants to be loved. You keep making her push back her love life for you, but you never change. This is me as your best friend telling you she has a point." He speaks. And I roll my eyes.
"She is not going on a date with anyone else. She is mine, and I refuse to watch her date anyone. All I'm asking for is just a little more time." I speak. I say filling out the inventory.
"That's not fair. That's why her friends don't like you now. Because you're condescending." He speaks. I must laugh because he's not wrong.
"I have known her longer than them we were raised together. They are just saying that because I keep ruining the dates they set her up on. I don't care how they know the guys, it's too dangerous to be going on a date with someone you don't know." I speak. The nighttime manager walks in.
"Hey, what's up?" She speaks. The nighttime manager's name is Zoe, and she is one of Katrina's and mine other friends that we met in high school.
"Hey, last night Corey texted and said y'all had trouble, and looking at our daily report, profit was down. What happened?" I ask as she sits down.
"Last night, both of the bouncers walked off the stand. It was also found later that they had been letting people into the club for free, so I fired them. We lost at least 700 in door fees alone. Then we were a waiter short and that cost us a lot of profit on sales because we had to close a section." She speaks. I nodded damn.
"We can run interviews tomorrow since you are the night manager. Would you rather I run the interview, or you come in one day this week to run them?" I ask.
"I can run them. I need to know who is working for me because I would hate to have to beat their ass. For getting smart with me. Just like imma do you for fucking with Kat." She speaks. Standing up and slapping my head.
"Ow, when did y'all even talk?" I ask.
"When I was driving over here. On the phone. Josh, she cried I don't think she can handle this confusion anymore. You are breaking her. It's not fair and you know it. I know that there is pressure from all of us, but it's for both of you all sanity you need to figure it out, okay." She spoke.
I hate that I made her cry. I know that what I'm doing isn't fair to her, not to me, or our friends who are forced to pick sides. It's messy, but I also know that what's going on isn't going to change if I can't get the problem we have under control.
She doesn't deserve this, and I know that. I'm trying to do right but her every day.
"I know. I'll go talk to her tonight." I say rubbing my hand down my face.
"Good. Now let's start calling and setting up interviews. We need to fill three bouncer' spots and 2 waiters. " She says. And I nodded.
We got to work and didn't finish until around 3 in the afternoon. Since the club doesn't open until 9 tonight Zoe said she was going home to get some rest before she came to open tonight. I went to finish business at my other club on the other side of town. I got a text from Kat saying I didn't have to pick her up.
