Patches just finished packing the things he'll bring for the picnic. the dog was pretty excited and happy about it, a whole day with the banana splits. and this time, he won't fall sleep like yesterday. he wanted to know what they liked, what things they liked to do and so on. patches couldn't wait to make them their new friends.
Patch's mother came into the room to check up if the kid was ready to go. the bigger dog felt proud that everything was ready in no time. the only thing left to do was to get their jacket ready. it's pretty cold outside, especially now that autumn is kicking in, patch's mother doesn't want her child to get a cold. so she went to the closet that was in front of the bed and picked up the same blue jacket that patches was wearing yesterday. the jacket was beautiful, it had a patch close to the left pocket and it was pretty cozy. The smaller dog thanked his mother and got the jacket on.
But, when patches was just about to pull the zipper up, it got stuck. it was pretty stiff to pull up so patches needed help, so he looked up at his mother. The mother didn't had to wait for a 'Mom, can you help me?' so she jumped right onto helping the kid with the zipper. so she lowered down to his height and pulled the zipper up to the top.
For her. it was pretty easy, it just needed a bit of practice and the right amount of force to pull it up. but since that was done, The mother looked at her kid's face with a sweet smile and asked.
-Are you excited to see the banana splits again, hun? She asked softly but with excitement.
-Oh yes! and this time..i won't fall asleep! Patches responded with happiness. He picked up his backpack and hanged it on his back. the little dog wanted to know even more about these guys, and they were a band and so on. "Mom?....tell me more about them.." the kid asked. the mother just smiled, and sat down at the edge of the bed to start talking.
-Well...Ehm...drooper has a pet flea named "Fletcher" who likes to play the piano. The bigger dog started to explain. "And No one takes fleegle seriously..." The smaller dog began to giggle.
-They sound like a lot of fun! The pup tackled his mom into a hug "Mom..i'm glad they are your friends.." The mother responded to the hug, it wasn't very long until they heard a car horn outside the house. it was drooper, he waved at the 2 dogs at the window. "Hey guys! Patches! are you ready?" Patches nodded with excitement and ran downstairs to greet drooper, who was outside with the banana buggy.
Drooper got of the car and hold out his arm to the kid, expecting a high five. but patches ignored the hand and decided to hug him. drooper was confused...but responded to the hug nonetheless.
The mother smiled, as she watched drooper lifting up the kid and getting him into the car. the smaller dog laughed as he got into the seat beside the driver's seat. They were just like she remembered. a happy group of animals who liked to have fun. and she was proud that her child enjoyed this. but there was something....something she had to tell drooper before they left..it's about the kid..so she went up to drooper, who was checking the car to see if everything was ready to go.
-Ya got your seat belt on, kiddo? He lifted his glasses to see patches buckling up and giving him a thumbs up. "Alright! let's go!" The lion clapped once as he was ready to get in the car. but something stopped him..it was the mother.
-Droop?...can i tell you something before you go? She looked a bit worried, Drooper didn't knew what was going on..but he walked with his old friend to the back of the car. patches knew exactly what was going on...he forgot to talk about his syndrome...he always does. it might be something small..but his mother thinks it's much more than that. so patches just looked at the sky while his mother started talking to drooper. he just let out a whisper. "I hope drooper doesn't mind..".
-Aspergers?... Drooper tilted his head in confusion. the kid has aspergers? what is that..a candy? favorite toy? or perhaps it could be his favorite song. the mother explained that aspergers is kinda like autism. but still different. that patches might not do..what you expect him to do, he also doesn't like loud noises and so on. his mother didn't mind her child had aspergers, but she thinks that people should know so patches feels confortable.
Drooper just nodded with a smile. he'll tell the rest of the group when they get there. So he waved goodbye to his friend and got on to the car. the mother just went to the passenger seat and gave patches a kiss on their forehead. "Have fun, honey!" The smaller dog giggled as drooper got the car going. as they speed off, patches waved goodbye to his mother. "Bye mom! i love you!".
Drooper smiled as they speed off in the banana buggy. he'll be sure to tell the other splits about the kid's syndrome. and he'll make sure that patches feel comfortable.
