Three areas later and it was becoming obvious getting to the door wasn't going to be easy. Both Amira and Savanna lay on the ground, panting as they looked up at the sky. "Do you think we're going to make it, Sav?"
"Yeah, I do, but it's not going to be easy, Mira." Their eyes met when they both turned their heads at the same time. "I think we can do one more area and then we're going to need to stop for the night."
"Let's stop here. Pushing ourselves will make it harder. The best thing we can do is eat, sleep, and try not to think too much about what might be coming next."
Savanna smiled. "Sounds like a better plan than mine was."She yawned. "I'm going to make us something to eat. Then we can get some sleep."
Nodding, Amira watched as Savanna made them both a quick dinner with things she found in the area. It was harder than Amira thought it was going to be to stay awake, but she managed it for long enough to eat, and then she crashed out. Every area was harder than the next one, which was making them both mentally and physically exhausted. When she woke it was dawn again. She glanced over at Savanna, who smiled, looking as though she'd just woken up too.
"Morning, Mira." She yawned. "Want some breakfast?"
"After I've woken myself up a bit."
Yawning, using hands that were clumsy, Amira pushed herself into a standing position and made her way over to the stream. It seemed to go in all sorts of unexpected directions, but that morning she was grateful for it. She splashed some water over her face, letting the coldness of it wake her up, before making her way back over to where Savanna was cooking. Amira made the decision to never ask what she was eating, as that seemed like the most logical thing to do. "You feel more with it now?"
"I do, thanks."
"Great. Can you watch over breakfast for a minute for me? I could do with the same sort of wake-up."
"Go right ahead."
With a spatula she was certain Savanna had made from something else Amira moved the food around in the saucepan. "I'm back." Savanna took the spatula. "Go sit down. I'll bring breakfast over for you in a little bit."
"I can do things that aren't fight, Sav."
"I know you can, but I have a feeling we're going to need you to be at your best in the next room. Please don't ask me why. I have no idea."
"Feelings are good. Make the most of them and tell me whatever you feel. You've always been the most intuitive of the three of us, while Sam was the most logical."
"Mira, I miss him."
"So I do." Their eyes met. "I miss him more than I thought was possible."
