Jason's exhaustion was obvious to his friends as he threw himself on his soft mattress. The guys were invested in some soccer match. He had been out earlier, on the field craving some alone time so he went for a run.

While Jason did not completely loathe the idea of boarding school, he hated the fact that his mother would be alone at home again.

Jace's friends - Simon, Max and Joey had been close since their freshman year but Simon and Joey had stuck together since middle school.

It was hard for his mind not to wander to how his cousin was doing. He hadn't seen Nessa around yet. Earlier in the year, his aunt had mentioned her transferring to his school. He was not particularly fond of the idea knowing Nessa's personality and how attached she was to her friends back home, especially Ash.

He wondered if she'd be quick to join a clique, maybe those girls who saw themselves as "the elite" among the elites. With almost everyone being quite well to do he didn't understand their constant need to flaunt their wealth and take pleasure in demeaning people.

He always had Nessa's back but he always just argued with her and terrorised her a few times so she hated him while he genuinely cared for her. He'd have to look out for her, he decided

"Jace?"

"What?", Jason tried not to sound irritated at the sound of Simon's voice. He's always so bubbly and happy. Simon's dad was a hotshot lawyer, a partner at some law firm. His mom remarried and barely saw him

"We're going to Joey's later today. Wanna come?", he asked

Joey's family owned the school. So weirdly, his house wasn't too far from the school.

The boys went there every couple of weeks for a home cooked meal, to watch movies, play games and just hang out. Mostly because his mom loved them and was grateful her son was not a loner. The kid barely talked unless he was with his friends.

"Can't. I have to sleep", Jace replied covering his head with a blanket.

Joey was skeptical, he knew Jace quite well. Whenever he needed to sleep, most of the time, he was either in a bad mood or going through something.

"Jace- come with us", Joey repeated in his usual low tone

"No"

"Jace", Simon whined pulling his blanket off. He was so weird sometimes

"Fine", Jason huffs sitting up

"Good, I was just about to sit on you", Simon revealed chuckling lightly

They got their permission slips and rushed off campus. The boys were chatting about their soccer season coming up.

"Max?", Joey repeated his friend's name. They had asked him about his plans for later but he had stopped walking and was staring at a "couple"

Marissa and that senior guy. They seemed too cosy, well more than cosy since they were heavily making out behind one of the buildings.

His jaw clenched unknowingly. She knew he still liked her and it made her feel she had massive power over him. Had she not kissed him earlier? Had she not said they could get back together?

"Max....", Joey tugged on his arm lightly

"Are you still into that bitch?", Jace asks his voice filled with disdain

"Don't -"

"Don't what? Call her a bitch? Bro she cheated on you. Many times, forget about her", Jace said walking ahead of the group and the others looked at him not really knowing what to say.
