"I know you all must be wondering why you have been gathered here." She asked the members of Issac's group. They were gathered in a small room. It had a small wooden desk – that had papers and files scattered over it – and a chair, sitting in front of a mid-sized window, and a silver filling cabinet that had turned brown around the corners due to rust. The room also had a bookshelf that had books half-laying and sprawling in it. The rest of the room was very plain and basic.
"Well, this..." Althea said motioning around, "this is sort of my office, that everyone uses except me!" She finished with a small laugh and looked around at all of their faces, before her eyes landed on Ezra who was leaning against a wall. They all looked either blank or confused or anxious. She realised these people got anxious and nervous around her a lot – except, of course, Issac, Aiden and Amara – especially after the little scene in the meeting hall.
"I will get straight to the point. I know you people don't trust me and I don't expect you to, not after the way I have treated you or talked to you. I also know that trust is not born, it is earned and I am more than willing to. All I am asking is, you give me a chance." She expressed looking back and forth at every single of them for a few seconds, before continuing.
"With that being said, there's got to be someone you trust? Someone you won't mind taking orders from?"
The others thought for a while and Aiden spoke up on everybody's behalf, "Ezra."
Althea scanned his face and then gazed at Ezra who was perplexed by this new discovery. Her eyes were wide like a clown and she looked like she had stopped breathing.
The corner of Althea's lips lift into a slight smile at Ezra's reaction and she tried to hide her smile.
"Fair enough. Ez, four."
"Is it Four in the morning now?" Issac asked.
"It's five for you all."
"Take a seat everyone." She continued.
"Where?" Aiden asked to which she bowed her head slightly and pointed at her head.
Aiden moved towards her smiling and she returned his smile before motioning him to stop, "sit down."
After they all took a spot on the floor and sat down, she continued, "Now about why you all are here." She said leaning against the desk.
"You all need to know some things. Let's start from the start. Let's start from us. We are different than other humans. The next generation of homo sapiens you can say. So we can't call ourselves humans, we need a new name. And, so, we go by the name of 'hybrids'."
"Now, the virus that created us hybrids, created another species. We call them infected – mutants, growlers and so on."
"WHAT?" Aiden asked, utterly shocked by this revelation.
"Yeah." She nodded her head at him as if to say 'I feel ya!'.
"Our researches tell us, now, before I say anything else, keep in mind that our researchers had limited time as well as resources. So there can be things we have yet to discover but what we have discovered so far tells us that there is no fixed pattern." She went quite for a few seconds, thinking carefully about her next words because if she didn't choose the right words, things will just get more complicated.
