School wasn't that bad today. I actually had fun.
When I got in our classroom in the morning, I had to choose where I would like to sit. I saw Bianca waiting for me at the front desk next to the window, so I immediately knew where I should go. We like to be at the front because we can see everything the teachers write in their notebooks and other interesting things.
„Hello everyone. I'd like you to vote for the class president and vice president today," Mrs. Hayes informed us, right after the bell rang.
„And please, take the voting seriously this time. So don't even think about voting Preston as a prank, just like the previous two years," she added.
Preston is the laziest student I've ever met. He doesn't care about school at all. All he does is play video games and ignore homework. He's kind of creepy, to be honest. That's why the other kids always vote him as the class president. They want someone like him to be responsible for the whole class, when he's in fact not even able to turn in his homework or study for an exam.
When Mrs. Hayes handed us all a blank piece of paper, everyone started discussing who should they vote. I voted for Robin. He's a very smart guy and he's also funny and mature. I know he'd be a good class president. He's also interested in politics, so I was sure he'd be happy if he won.
When everyone was done voting, our teacher picked our papers and started reading the names written on them. I was counting votes for each name.
„Preston. Preston. Preston. Preston?! Are you kidding me? Which four of you voted for Preston?"
Nobody answered.
„Alright. Robin. Linda. Robin. Robert. Robert. Maggie. Robert. Robin. Robin. Robin. Linda. Maggie. Preston."
Mrs. Hayes sighed.
„Robin. Robin. Robin. Robin. Robert. Kyle. Robin," she read the rest of the papers.
Robin definitely won.
„Since our president is a boy, I'd like the vice president to be a girl. The only girls who got voted are Maggie and Linda, both with just one vote. What should we do now?"
„I think I know," Alan, one of the smartest in our class, tried to come up with a solution, „we should make a girls-only election. Whoever wins will be the class vice president."
„Great idea!" others agreed.
Mrs. Hayes gave us the papers we previously voted on. We flipped them over, wrote a girl's name and gave them back to her. When she received them from everyone, she started reading them. And I counted them again.
I voted for Linda. I think she deserves to win, not only because she hates losing, but also because she's very responsible, intelligent and just perfect for the position of the class vice president.
Mrs. Hayes started reading the votes:
„Valerie. Valerie. Valerie."
Amazing. They're trying to put me in the position of the vice president, even though everyone knows I literally don't want the role.
(Since I haven't told you, the class president and the vice president have to stay in school for some extra time and do some extra tasks for the class. I'm often busy with sport trainings, so I don't have time for such things.)
So yeah, they only voted for me just to embarass me and make me stay in school for hours longer.
I actually didn't care if I won or not. I could always resign from the role and give it to the second most voted person.
Mrs. Hayes kept reading: „Valerie. Linda. Linda. Maggie. Natasha. Linda. Linda. Linda. Natasha. Natasha. Nyla. Maggie. Valerie. Valerie. Valerie. Valerie. Linda. Nyla. Linda. Linda. Linda. Linda."
I counted the votes.
Linda won just by one vote!
I heard growling from the back of the class.
„Unfair! We should have a new election!" Kyle shouted.
„No, this is completely fine, Kyle," Mrs. Hayes calmed him down.
I couldn't help it but laugh for myself. They thought they could make fun of me. Look who just embarassed themselves! If I didn't vote for Linda, God knows what would have happened. If it wasn't for my vote, it could have been very different.
The teacher gave us a bunch of new books. We looked through them and wrote our names on them.
We also separated in small groups in which we will look after younger students tomorrow, when their teachers will be photographing themselves. Me, Bianca and another girl, Andrea, will take care of the sixth graders during the break which the teachers will be gone.
Then we talked about the school rules for the rest of the day.
I can say today was very interesting. I'm excited for tomorrow (which is also school picture day)! :)
