Ava waited 4 hours for her dad to return, but he didn't. She sat fidgeting in the window, twiddling her thumbs and wriggling her toes but never braking her gaze from the mucky glass.

After 4 hours she dragged herself to her feet an hobbled to the toilet, hoping that when she came back her dad would have appeared. He hadn't. She sat in the cheerful sunlight for another 5 hours, but the whether completely contradicted her mood. She sat in a gloomy silence until she finally decided to so something.

She dragged herself painfully off the seat again and half-crawled half-walked across the floor to the front door, where she pulled on a pair of boots which helped to support her stiff ankle. Then she used the doorknob to pull herself up and hobble out, cringing in pain from her ribs at ever movement. At the last second she grabbed a cardigan that hung on a peg by the door: it was cold outside and would help to hide the lumpy blue stitches.

She slowly made her way through the side streets, keeping her eyes peeled for any sign of her dad or a struggle. She had seen none by the time she had reached the main road, and by that time her stiff legs were able to move a little more easily and she made quicker progress, soon arriving at the police station.

She went in and a tall, dominating man peered down at her over the desk. He glowered and Ava shrunk back, but then ragaind her confidence and said:

"Excuse me Mr Police Officer, I need help." She then went on to explain the whole story, right from when her dad attacked her last night to 10 hours ago, when he had left. She had glanced at the clock to figure out how long ago he had gone missing and to her horror she discovered she had spent an hour getting to the station.

When the officer had all the details he needed her sent Ava home, making her promise to come back at 10 in the morning the next day. Her legs were now completely un-stiff and she sprinted the entire way, still looking for clues of her dad's whereabouts. She saw none that were any use. Halfway through the maze of alleyways she had seen footsteps in the dust, but as she had neared she saw they belonged to a rather large, fat tabby cat.

She practically broke the door down bursting into the flat in excitement, but no-one was there. In desperation Ava searched all the rooms, but the only difference from when she left was the times on the clock.

She sank into her chair and fell asleep, to wake up at midnight. Still no sign if her dad appeared.

She never saw him again.
