Ava kept her eyes shut and listened to what was happening around her. She could hear murmuring and muttering, and also a strange, never-ending beeping sound. A syringe was inserted into her upper left arm and her eyes flew open as she gave an involuntary gasp of pain.
Ava was in a large white room which was tiled. She lay in a white bed with crust white sheets, and had a bandage over her ribs. A heart monitor by the bed appeared to be the source of the beeping sound, and a kindly looking nurse stood over her holding an empty syringe.
"Ah, Ava. You're awake." She said nicely, placing the syringe down gently on a tray. "I'm Katy and I am going to be your nurse."
"H-how did I get here?" Ava asked, her voice croaky and hoarse.
