"Are you sure?" Will asks seriously.
"More like 95% sure. I want your opinion." Kiara says.
"Okay. How about I fake an injury at the end of the match, and you offer to take me to the nurse?" Will grants.
"Sounds good." Kiara accepts.
"We should also include her." Will adds as an afterthought.
Kiara knows his referring to Sasha. That's the last thing she wants to do, but she is part of the team. It wouldn't be fair to not tell her. It would be the kind of thing she does, and Kiara is determined not to be like her.
"Fine, but you'll have to do it. She won't come if I tell her." Kiara accepts reluctantly.
Will sends a quick text from his phone and they take their positions to begin the volleyball game. Kiara, Jessy, Zoey and Sean are one team, while Will, Ed and Ney are the other.
Kiara's team is one point from winning. Ney serves and the ball goes from one side of the net to the other. Ed passes the ball to Ney who throws it over the net. Kiara quickly jumps and blocks the ball, returning it. Will dives to save it, but it is too late. The ball touches the ground and Kiara's team wins.
They do a victory group hug, but when they fall apart, Will is sitting on the ground hugging his hand to his chest in pain. They quickly go to him.
"What happened?" Zoey asks concerned.
"Landed on my left hand." Will answers through clenched teeth.
"Think you broke it again?" Ed says seriously.
"Don't know" Will says through clenched teeth.
"I think its best if the nurse checks it out." Kiara comments. "Come on, I know where it is."
Will nods and Sean helps him stand.
"Think you can get there without distractions?" Ed insinuates lightly to brighten the mood.
"Don't think he is up to it." Kiara laughs brushing off the comment.
Will shoots his friend a murderous look, that amuses Kiara.
"We'll wait for you here. If not in the pool." Ney says but gives her a knowing look.
Kiara rolls her eyes at her.
Kiara leads Will out of the courts onto the main path back to the dorm area. When they're far enough that none of their friends can see or hear them, Will stops grabbing his arm.
"For a moment, I almost thought it was real." Kiara admits, surprised at his acting skills.
"Thanks." Will says as he looks at his phone and types something. "Sasha replied. She will meet us at my room."
Kiara nods. They don't encounter many people on their way. Most of the students are in the common areas, so the dorm buildings are almost deserted. Will opens his door for her. After she steps inside, he closes it grabs his laptop from his suitcase.
"Sorry about the mess." Will says as he sits down and powers it on.
"No problem." Kiara says feeling a little uncomfortable. But it doesn't last long because of a knock on the door. She opens the door and Sasha barges in.
"Okay. I'm giving you 15 minutes of my time. Then I'm out of here." Sasha says as she drops down on one of the beds.
No apology and no comment about what happened in the morning. As if it never occurred.
Typical. Kiara rolls her eyes. She isn't going to bring it up if Sasha doesn't. So, she begins.
"Remember that map we found of Berte's office in the vineyard. With all the colored pins?"
Will and Sasha nod.
"Well, all the pins mark a property related to Berte's business. Warehouses, vineyards, administrative buildings and so on, except one.
"The art museum." Will says puzzled.
"Berte loves art. Big deal. Can I go now?" Sasha says while checking her nails.
"No." Kiara states firmly.
"I still don't get why would he pinpoints an art museum when it has nothing to do with his business." Will says encouraging Kiara to get to the point.
"So, I finally read the last part of our research. Turns out that during World War II after Hitler took control of Paris that museum was a secret Nazi lab. It burned down and was abandoned later on. A few decades ago, Berte bought it, rebuild it and turned it into an art museum. Would it be too farfetched that maybe he reconstructed said lab and put the art museum as a cover?"
"We found the original blueprints, didn't we?" Will asks.
He quickly types into his computer. His eyes rove over the screen as he searches the files.
"Yeah, along with the most recent ones and streets blueprints from both years." Kiara answers.
Will stops after a few minutes and turns the screen. It shows both blueprints superimposed and in relation to their location.
"The museum and the lab are not exactly the same dimensions." Will explains. "The actual building is bigger than the lab and the area of the museum opened to the public. Those areas to not match. But there is a part that fits the lab that could be under the cover of storage facilities and maintenance area for the art pieces."
"You know this is mere speculation." Sasha expresses. "Just because there used to be a lab there in the 40s and the blueprints match a little doesn't mean the lab is there. We can't give this to Carville."
"That's what I thought." Kiara says. "But... what if we find proof that the lab is there. Then we can tell Carville. He will take charge and we'll be officially done."
"Friendly reminder, we completed our mission" Sasha states in a tone not exactly friendly.
"We all know we could have done more if Carville hadn't dismissed us." Kiara says.
"But he did and that is that." Sasha says bitterly.
"I know. But I can't leave this unsolved. I just can't." Kiara says.
"We don't have to do this." Will says to Kiara. "We don't have to make amends or prove ourselves."
"Maybe, but I'm going. I would like to have a team with me. So, will you help me snoop around an art museum?"
