Replace Your Heart

Chapter 16

Personal Soldier

~

NATHAN.

She stared at me.

She blinked.

Then she sighed.

"Nath, get up," She said gently, tugging at my hand.

My heart pounded inside my chest. What Is she up to? Is she about to decline again? Is she about to break my heart? What?

Shaking slightly, I stood up.

We locked eyes. She wrapped her arms around the back of my neck, leaving our faces less than five inches apart. Her expression was unreadable.

"Do you think, if I say yes, we can make this relationship strong enough?" She asked softly, never breaking eye contact.

Honestly, I don't know.

Could we? With the tour and her moving in to Stanford? College is really hard. It will consume all her time. Plus, the tour is still on for two more months. I don't have that much time either.

What will happen to me? To us?

I took a deep breath and let out a nervous laugh.

"Honestly-I dunno."

She stared deep into my eyes, her emerald green eyes boring into my soul. She looked.. fierce.

And she took my breath away.

She drew the answer right out of my mouth.

"We can. And we will. I'll make a way."

"Are you sure?"

What is up with all of the questions?

"Do you trust me?" I asked seriously. It was my turn to stare her down.

For a brief second, her eyes were tinted with something else. Something I couldn't put my finger on. But she quickly recovered and the sparkle in them returned.

"Of course I do."

"Then what's up with all the questions?"

"I-" She sighed. "I have some sort of trust issue, Nath. And I'm still having trouble believing this is real."

Instinctively, I placed my forehead against hers and wrapped my arms around her waist.

"Is this real enough for you?" I asked, touching my nose to hers. One final push forward and our lips would make contact.

She giggled.

I never knew she could do that.

"Nath?"

"Hm?"

"It's a yes."

What?

Processing...

Holy shit.

Letting out a laugh of relief, I wrapped my arms around her, tighter, and lifted her off the ground.

Cheering and hollering emanated from the bushes. I put her down and she looked curiously towards the source of the noise.

She laughed when she saw who the people were.

"Really? I never thought they could keep quiet for that long." She remarked.

I snorted. "They were probably videotaping the whole thing. I couldn't stop them. Is it okay or-"
