Leia Organa Solo looked around as the crew on board the Raddus' bridge moved quickly. Behind them, the First Order had jumped out of lightspeed. "Bring all shields and deflectors to full strength!" Ordered Admiral Ackbar. "I was all turbolaser and Ion batteries online as well."
Leia turned to Poe Dameron, a young Resistance fighter, a hotshot pilot. "Go. Fight now."
Poe nodded with a grin. "Yes General, thank you!"
She softly smiled, watching as the young lad ran off. Ah, youth of today. She turned to watch as Madine and Ackbar put a holo up of the soon-to-be battlefield. "They're launching fighters. Unlike the other ships, those are small enough to slip beneath our shields." Madine reported.
Leia sighed wearily. She was tired of battle. "Let us hope that they will not do much damage on their own."
A few moments later, a massive explosion rocked the cruiser. "So much for little damage" Ackbar grumbled, checking the consoles for the shields.
Leia & Madine ignored him. "Damage report!" Madine ordered.
"We've lost hanger bays 2 and 3 to a cluster missile strike." one of the Resistance personnel operating at a control panel reported, grimacing. Most likely all the fighters in that hangar were destroyed and the pilots preparing for space battle were dead.
"3 fighters have penetrated our shields grid." An officer at a console reported. "They're turning tail and...wait a minute."
Leia could sense the fear in him and reached out to find the source of his fear. She nearly recoiled at the amount of the Dark Side around him but recognized who piloted the main spacecraft. 'Ben'
Kylo Ren angled his ship to avoid the forward turret batteries with his wingmen right behind him. The trio flew close enough that any damage to the ship would be catastrophic. He closed his eyes and let the force guide his actions, locking onto the bridge of the Resistance's command ship.
A mind touched his, a familiar one. One that he hadn't felt in years. His eyes opened in surprise. 'Mum?'
Leia closed her eyes feeling her age, feeling her son, so close. He can be redeemed! 'Ben'
Kylo Ren flicked the switch. The targeting computer had the bridge of the Resistance Cruiser locked in. He lowered his trembling thumb to the activator's switch. His finger shook as it got closer. Finally, it stopped, right over the red button jutting out from the shiny silver metal.
Leia frowned, her age lines making her look old. Some of the crew looked at their general, concerned. Leia reached out with the Force. 'Ben, it's your mother, I am here.'
Kylo Ren shook in his cockpit. His thumb was close, 2 inches...1.5 inches...1 inch...0.5 inches...contact. His thumb was about to press it, but then he felt his mother's presence again. Her warmth, blocked out the coldness of his master's mind.
Ben Solo couldn't do it. He couldn't kill his mom. He had to! He can't! But he must. yet...he CANT!
Leia felt the turmoil in her son and sent feelings of reassurance, relief, and comfort. Of family. Of Love.
Kylo Ren flinched, a chink in his armor made. He couldn't kill his mother, moving his thumb off the trigger.
One of his wingmen disagreed. And in that moment, Ben Solo roared in fury as the torpedoes fired and struck the bridge, blowing it apart, likely killing everyone inside, or sending them getting sucked into the vacuum of space.
Ben stared in horror at the smoke and fires rising from the ruins of the bridge of the Resistance flagship, before the mask of Kylo Ren grew over him when his master's cold touch returned to his mind. His face went blank, while his mind screamed in its prison.
