The Jedi temple on Coruscant was the symbol of light, peace, and tranquility. It is a calm, familiar rock, one that has been untouched by the chaos of Corusant, waves of the ocean that have battered it time and time again, only to recede when no damage has been made.

This famous structure is home to the Jedi Order, the official peacekeepers and worshipers of the Light Side of the Force. There was peace and serenity in nearly every corner of the light side's temple. It was a fortress that had survived over 10,000 years of war, economic, and political conflict, and would last that way for more. A beacon of Light, Happiness, and Hope, that produced thousands of Jedi to spread that feeling to the cosmos. To find other Force-sensitives, bring them back home, and begin the cycle anew.

There are four types of Jedi that were typically produced by the Jedi Order, not including those Jedi who left the Order willingly or fell to the Darkside.

The Jedi Consulars (like all Jedi) are skilled in combat, but unlike their fellows, rarely enter it. They prefer to study the workings of the Living and Cosmic Force. The Living Force represents the energies of all lifeforms, it is where life is created from. Just as the Cosmic Force is where those energies return to, which in turn binds the universe together & communicates the Force's will through the use of the Midi-chlorins.

Consulars are the primary scholars, diplomats, and sometimes, seers of the Jedi Order. They are the ones usually dispatched to solve crises with words, rather than Force. Many of them have also become instructors of the Force, passing their knowledge of them onto others. Typically, their lightsaber was green, which signified their beliefs in non-violence, rather than the use of force (no pun intended).

The Jedi Guardians are skilled in combat, and take those skills to another level. They are the physical defenders of peace & justice. While they are no less skilled at diplomacy than their peers, a Guardian's true talents lay in martial arts and engagement in combat situations.  Like all Jedi, they are protectors of peace. Traditionally, their lightsaber color is blue, showing their willingness to fight for a good cause.

The Jedi Sentinels are skilled in combat, but their fighting style is more unique, it is focused on subduing an opponent. A Sentinel seeks a balance between the two extremes of the Jedi Consulars and Guardians. Their knowledge of the Force's workings is adequate. Unlike their fellows, a Sentinel does not have the weaknesses of a Guardian or Consular.

A Sentinel's responsibility, first and foremost, is to protect the Jedi Order, its scholars, diplomats, and their home, the Jedi Temple. Traditionally, their lightsabers are yellow-white, showing their willingness of flexibility, but hesitation to dedicate fully to one role or the other.

And lastly, the Jedi Shadows. While publicly in 42 BBY they were disbanded and have all died off, this sect of Jedi remains hidden amongst themselves. A Jedi Shadow was formerly a Jedi Sentinel, who pursued a more unique focus of training. This Force sect has been around since the Great Hyperspace War, hunting down Darksiders, and other Force-adept users who do not follow the teachings of the Jedi Order.

During the Sith Wars, these Shadows were dispatched by the Council of First Knowledge to destroy any surviving Sith relics, artifacts, holocrons, or lightsabers that had been left behind after the first Sith Empire fell. Sith amulets, trinkets, and even talismans were also destroyed, much like the Sith Massacre the Jedi committed, killing newborn children.

A Jedi Shadow is stern, ruthless, and nearly emotionless by the nature of their training. They will not hesitate to betray the one who they believe has fallen to the Dark Side, and are taught to offer no second chances, though they try restraint. Often, they will carry a double-bladed lightsaber, a rare feat amongst the Jedi Order. Their lightsabers are traditionally purple, which signifies the lengths and sacrifices they will make to destroy the Dark Side.
