The Naboo Royal Starcraft rocked as angry red lasers exploded against it's shields, courtesy of the turbolasers on the donut-like Trade Federation lucrehulk cruisers.

"You just had to challenge fate." Leia snapped as she stumbled in the hallway, following behind Vader. Vader hissed with anger as he was slammed into the wall, his anger bleeding into the Force, the Dark Side growing around the ship, feeding on the fear of those who faced danger. He pulled himself up and reentered the room where Artoo was working. He quickly checked to ensure that his setup hadn't been ruined. All lights are functional. Good.

The data stick he had given R2 would not only make a complete copy of all data in the droid's mainframe, also implant a virus. It was something the Empire had designed in case the Rebels managed to find an abandoned droid factory after the Ghost Rebel Cell had allied with the B-1 battle droids from a separatist droid outpost.

These inferior models would have a fire-safe. Palpatine's lessons were extremely brutal, but some of his tricks were useful. Such as always having extra cards handy, and using them sparingly. This was both a calculated risk and yet an easy data-scrounging mission.

'CRASH'

The ship rocked again, but this time alarms began to blare in the maintenance and mechanics area where Vader was. The R-2 and G-8 model droids moved to their stations. He heard the whoops of Jar Jar and then a crash. No doubt the fool had tripped over something.

Jar-Jar hopped into view, one foot somehow stuck in the head of an R9 droid's dome. Anakin remembered all of those times when Jar-Jar somehow got himself into various situations. The Gungan was extremely clumsy and had the worst luck streak of anyone in the galaxy.

'Yet, somehow, this amphibian has managed to get his bad luck turned into karma-based survivalist luck'.  Vader thought, deciding to ignore & avoid the relatively harmless, but annoying Gungan, Vader turned back to R2-D2, who was whistling a query at him.

"No. If we arrive on Coruscant with nothing but words, the Senate will not aid us. This is the best way to aid the Queen. I will buy you some time." he replied, sounding cryptic, but the astromech understood him loud and clear. Vader had needed another ally, a robotic companion that was quick on its feet.

He added program files to R2 from another data stick he had. This one he had made during the Clone Wars after Anakin's droid had been captured and sold to Grievous. Anakin had taken the listening station down and rescued his droid, which was worth more than Obi-Wan ever knew. On the data stick was a complete copy of all of R2-D2's memory banks from this moment up to his time serving in the first year of the Clone Wars.

Once the droid asked him who he was in binary, Vader simply used the Force to make whoever entered the room ignore the corner while he unsealed his helmet. Then after confirming to the droid that they were indeed in the past, and he really is Anakin Skywalker, he explained the situation as best as he could, intending to tackle this from a different angle. As he let the block he left in the room fade, the door hissed, sliding open. Ahsoka stumbled in, Leia right behind her. She saw Vader stand up from where he had been kneeling with R2 and the battle droid.

"Master, if you're done playing tinker, we could use some of your fancy flying skills right now!" she called, grabbing onto a wall for support as the ship rocked again.

R2 spotted her and whistled cheerfully.

"R2?" Leia gasped in surprise when she spotted R2-D2. R2 swiveled his dome around, ignoring Leia, who was hurt. "Hey there Artooie." Ahsoka cooed, wondering what her master had done to get the little guy to remember her, though grateful the astromech was here. Vader's speaking drew her attention back to him.
