<<<Samantha>>>

Mikey comes back in from the bathroom in only his jeans as Samantha buttons hers and grabs their shirts off the floor. She hands his to him but instead he grabs her and pulls her to his chest, kissing the top of her head. She smiles as she melts into him, choosing to feel the happiness he brings her instead of the aching that they can't have a future.

She looks up into his lidded ocean eyes, finding intense compassion and what she imagines is love. She knows he can't possibly love her, but she will pretend that for tonight he does. And admit that she might, too.

"You're the most beautiful girl I've ever met," Mikey says quietly, staring just as powerfully into her eyes before he rests his hand on her cheek.

She smiles as she grabs his hand, and leans into it, rubbing her face along his palm as his thumb caresses over her lips. He grins down at her as her eyes close, truly loving him in this moment. Even if she's not truly in love with him, right here, right now, his hand grounding her in happiness, she loves him. She loves his gentle touch, his compassion, his sympathy, his doting eyes, and simply who he is. She loves him.

She slowly opens her eyes and finds him staring at her, a small curved smile on his lips that she longs to taste. Her body presses into his as she lifts on her toes and kisses him, wrapping her arms around his neck. His smiles turns to a grin as he walks her backwards and they fall to her bed, his gentle mouth kissing her neck as she giggles.

He sighs in contentment at the beautiful sound in his ears before he looks up at her and she sees the desire in his eyes, but instead he just kisses her sweetly before he pulls them to their feet. He hands her shirt to her before he puts his on, his eyes landing in her closet and he begins walking to it. She watches him as she fluffs her hair, wondering what caught his attention before she leans her body to see.

"What's this?" he asks her as he approaches a guitar case on the ground, looking brand new.

Her heart stops as he grabs it and brings it out of the closet before she can protest and steps away from him, distancing herself as much as she can. His brows furrow as he watches the blood drain from her face and he quickly puts the case on her bed. He looks between her and the case as she stares at it, her eyes beginning to well.

"Sam, what's wrong?" he asks, stepping to her with ease and grabbing her hand.

"I can't," she whispers. "I can't look it."

"What?" he asks confused before she beginnings crying, falling into his chest and his arms immediately wrap around her. He walks her to the bed, pushing the guitar case over and sitting between it and her, holding her as she cries before he asks, "Sam, please tell me what's wrong."

She looks up at him and sniffles, letting him wipe at her tears and fix her smeared mascara before she whispers, "That's how she died." His brows furrow as he stares at her confused and she sits up, taking a deep breath. "It was a gift for my senior year," she begins, grabbing his hand for strength, "And," her breath shakes before her face twists up and a sob breaks free. She covers her face with her hands before he pulls her to his chest again, embracing her tight by wrapping his arms around her shaking body.

"Shhh," he soothes her quietly as he rests his cheek on her head, "Honey, shhhhh."

"She was bringing that home to me," she sobs into his chest, before pulling away, "Mikey, she was on her way home to me," she begs him to understand her grief as her chest shakes on her inhale, tears rolling down her cheeks. "She lied to them. She said she was going to buy my books, but they found out and called her and," she voice breaks as she hangs her head and grabs his big warm gentle hand with both of hers, "and they were fighting so she wasn't paying attention an-." She stops, shaking her head as she wails, her shoulders shaking.
