after a few moments, we separated. i was still on my toes and looked at him, lowering down. "so." he whispered.
"so." i whispered back.
"so you aren't mad."
"a little. no. yes. no." he laughed at me.
"so, yes or no?"
"no."
"was that, okay?" he asked.
"kiszka, did you forget that i was the one that kissed you?" i asked. he just laughed. "yes. i wouldn't be too angry if this continued, too."
"like a dating thing?" his eyes sparkled as thunder rumbled.
"yes, like a dating thing, sam. maybe we should go inside, i think my boots are waterlogged." we both looked at the ground, where my tote bag and doc martens laid forgotten. before i could say anything, he scooped me up with ease and carried me, the boots, and bag inside the garage. we laughed the entire way.
he put me down and closed the garage door, taking his hair down and shaking it out. "you're like a dog, sammy!" i shouted, giggling.
"grrrr!" he charged and lifted me, looking into my eyes and kissing me again. when we parted, he put me down softly.
"listen, maybe we shouldn't tell anyone about this yet. the guys might-" i started.
"i was thinking the exact same thing. friends in public, lovers in private."
"except we don't call it lovers." i finished.
"good call. c'mon, you can stay until the storm passes. you can borrow some of ronnie's clothes, i don't think she'll care. go ask her."
he opened the door, and we squeaked through the kitchen with our wet socks.
"hey, you two. wanna watch?" josh was sitting on the couch, with stand by me playing on tv.
"we're getting changed, be down in a minute." sam said, shooting up the stairs. i just waved at josh and ran after sam.
"hey, jake," i poked my head into his room. he was hunched over his computer. his head shot up.
"hi, y/n. back already?"
"yeah, we got sick of the coffee after a while. any idea if ronnie's home?"
"she's in her room."
"thanks, man." i closed the door behind me and i knocked on ronnie's door. "yep!" she shouted from inside.
"hey," i said, peeking inside. her room had lots of plants and little rocks scattered about. it was cluttered, but homey.
"sup, y/n?"
"can i, uh, borrow some clothes? i'll wash them tonight, i'm just soaked right now."
"mi closet es tu closet. i don't know the word for closet in spanish." she laughed.
"armario."
"is there anything you don't know?" she joked as i stepped into her closet.
"i dunno. chemistry? i flunked that."

i joined josh in the living room, clad in an old black shirt and jeans. "hey, kid."
"how's things in the life of a rock star slash movie maker?" i asked.
"god, i wish you could call it that. i started a new screenplay last night since i couldn't sleep. jake was on the phone with some girl and didn't have the courtesy to put in headphones or leave the room, so i did that until 3 am."
"what's it about?" sam sat down next to me, wearing a shirt advertising some random town in arizona.
josh sat up and held his hands out like a fake frame. "basically, a washed-up child star actress, a fistful of obetrol, and a seemingly bottomless downward spiral into bankruptcy."
"sounds fun." i said.
"so, that where mr. mystery is? with that girl? i could hear him in my room, too." sam asked.
"apparently her name is marie. he's been ogling over her for a couple of months and he wrote his number in her yearbook, so i guess they're dating now." he rolled his eyes.
"i wouldn't say the first date is necessarily dating, per say. more like-" i started.
"going out?" sam finished for me.
"that's the word." josh pointed at sam. he talked with his hands, often violently.
"are you seeing anyone, josh?" i asked.
"no. i kinda gave up on that whole thing." his face looked so red.
"smart man," i said, looking at sam, and he snickered.
"smart man who is really bad at lying."
"i can see that."
"he's really a genius. nearly crashed the car once because he couldn't see through his voluptuous hair." sam curled a strand of hair around his finger and fluttered his eyes.
"okay, will you two shut up? i've missed half of the movie." josh shouted, annoyed.

as we started our next movie, labyrinth, the storm raged on outside. the front door slammed open, and jake appeared, a confidence about him as he dripped rainwater all over the floor. "she kissed me."
"jesus fucking christ." josh put his hands on his face and leaned all the way back on the couch. sam and i looked at each other, turning red.
"i fucking kissed her!" he shouted to himself, running up the stairs to his room.
"i'm so sorry you have to share a room with that one." i put my hand on josh's shoulder as he groaned.
"he's gonna be like that for the rest of the week now." sam sighed, getting up. "anyone want popcorn?"
"to watch the hopeless romantic, or david bowie's crotch goblin?" i asked.
"both, i suppose. whichever tickles your fancy." he grinned mischievously and winked.
