*tw- i guess mentions of minor substance abuse? i dunno I wanna stay safe for ya'll tho*
i opened my eyes and squinted, the early morning sun pounding down. i rubbed sam's arm, him letting out a sigh and looking up at me. "mornin', sleepyhead." i grinned.
"this is my favorite way to wake up. not jake and josh arguing."
"welcome to peaceful mornings, something you'll never get." i laughed, sitting up. he ran his fingers through his hair.
"what are you doing tonight?"
"what am i doing every night? nothing."
"we're playing a show at that bar next town over."
"me and my camera will be there."

at 5:30, i locked the front door and set out to the kiszka's house, where a mini-van sat backed into the driveway. jake walked outside, holding a snare drum and a cymbal bag. "hey, y/n!"
"hi, jake. need help?"
"that would be nice. all of our shit, or most of it, has to fit into this van in the next 10 minutes."
i laughed and dropped my purse and camera on the front porch, picking up a drum and loading it in. danny walked up behind me, dropping a bag full of cymbal stands. "are you photographing today?"
"yessir. first job of the summer."
"glad to hear it. we've only ever had one show photographed. i'm itching for instagram pictures."
"jeez, man, you sound like one of those popular girls. gotta look good for the feed!" sam kicked his leg up behind him as he carried his petal board. i laughed as he put the board on top of the wires box, then turning and leaning in to kiss me. i watched the boys gag to each other through the corner of my eye.
after a few more trips, the van was packed, and danny and jake got in the front seat, pulling out of the driveway. at that moment, jane's car pulled up, marie stepping out as well as the owner. "the five us are gonna go in my car, saves gas for jane and josh and you." sam said.
"you were gonna drive me anyways. my dad has my car tonight because his is in the shop," i said, going to grab my things from the porch.
"she's only dating me because i drive her places."
"damn right, kiszka. saves me gas money." i kissed him on the cheek and got into the passenger seat.
"you guys are cute. pain in the ass to deal with, but cute." josh said, opening the door for jane to sit in the middle.
"aw, thanks, josh. i try." i turned around, winking. pretty in pink by the psychedelics came on the radio as sam turned the key.
"sam, how are these seats like this?" marie asked, looking at the seat she was sitting in.
"you don't even want to know."

the venue was the tiniest, dingiest, oldest-looking bar i'd ever stepped foot into, and i was a city girl. it was literally just old veterans and bikers, looking like they could kill all of in a single punch. great.
we loaded in from the back, the others bringing everything in while danny and i immediately began setting up the drumset. an older, friendly-looking man stood at the front of the stage from the floor, presumably the owner. "i really hope you all are the band."
"yep, we are. what can i help you with?" danny asked, getting up to talk to the owner. i stayed back, not paying attention to the conversation and working on getting the set ready. after it was mostly done, danny came back, sitting at the throne and spacing everything out how he wanted it. i backed away after the cymbals were on, starting to help sam bring the amps in.
"you got it?" he asked as i took one side of his marshall.
"we already had this conversation." i heaved up my side and helped him shuffle it through the backdoor.
it took us about a half-hour to get the stage all set up, but once it was done, i sat at the bar while the other two girls talked to the rest of the group. "can i see your id, young lady?" the bartender asked. i sighed and took out my fake id. you wouldn't believe me when i told you how much i paid for that little card, but it had made me a lot of money and gotten me into a lot of trouble back in the city. the bartender took it, glimpsed at it, and slid it back across. "what can i get you?"
"just an old-fashioned to start?" i asked. he nodded and disappeared behind the bar.
"did it work?" sam walked up and asked quietly, leaning on the bar.
"yeah. i called in a little favor from a friend back home. happy early half birthday, or whatever's closest." i slid a card into his back pocket. he pulled out a nearly perfect id, with the same picture from his actual license.
"how much was this?" he asked, astounded.
"a girl has her ways and her contacts," was all i said as the bartender returned with my drink.
"anything for your friend?"
"just a beer?" he asked, holding up the id. the bartender nodded and grabbed a stein from the overhang of the bar. sam kissed the top of my head, rubbing my shoulders. i tried to hand the bartender a 20 for the drinks, but he shook his head. "free drinks for the band and their guests, its a company policy. keeps 'em coming back." he smiled.
"sammy! soundcheck!" jake shouted from the stage. he grinned at me, grabbed the stein, and headed for the stage, resting it on the drum riser. they just kind of noodled around and jammed for soundcheck, the bar's sound guy kind of just doing whatever at the board until he got sick of them trying and failing to play completely improvised solos.
marie and jane eventually made their way over to me, where i was now working on a beer. "jesus, really workin' the booze, huh?" jane laughed.
"ah, yes. i get it from my gramps." i rolled my eyes.
"i think they're about to start, y/n," marie looked towards the stage. the boys all bounced nervously on the side.
