The morning of her entrance exam at UA, Vanya realized two things. One, she was an awful cook. She knew how to make the basics from living with Grace but there were only so many times she could stomach scrambled eggs for breakfast so when she tried her hand at a traditional Japanese breakfast (at least from what she had seen on TV) of steamed rice and grilled fish, she wasn't exactly surprised when both somehow caught on fire.

Her landlord, a man named Adachi, banged on her door and yelled how she was making too much noise early in the morning, as she had set the smoke detector off and was running around, trying frantically to shut it off and put the fire out at the same time.

Vanya was sick of the struggle and in a moment of panic, shot a spike of blue energy at the smoke detector, slicing it cleanly in half.

In the blissful silence, she waved her hand, using her quirk to knock the pot of failed steamed rice into the sink, where it flipped over and put itself out.

Forgoing cooking and instead just having a slice of toast and fruit, Vanya got dressed in grey sweatpants and a baggy black t-shirt with white tennis shoes, grabbed her backpack, and headed to the train station to catch her ride to UA.

It was there where Vanya encountered her second realization, she was absolutely horrible at social interactions.

The early morning commute was filled with people, the trains were packed to the brim with people going to work and students going to school. Vanya had to slide in between the other people standing and grab ahold of the ceiling grips dangling from the top of the train. The ride on the train itself was mostly smooth but the occasional bump made the man next to her rock his arm into her side. She ignored it for the first few times, until the train was not rocking at the moment his arm bumped into her and she realized he was doing it on purpose.

Rage filled her quicker than she thought possible and she flicked her finger at the exact moment the train rocked, sending a small energy blast to the back of the man's knee so it looked like the train knocked him over, directly into the lap of the elderly man sitting in front of him.

The elderly man immediately began to yell at him, talking about how "Kids these days are so careless," and "Back in my day, my mother would have severely disciplined me for treating an old man so disrespectfully."

Vanya turned to hide her smile as the man bowed and repeated apologies to the old man before practically running away to another part of the cart. The smirk on her face froze as she realized then that she had not made the decision to retaliate against the man. In a moment of anger, it was likely that her Other took control of her and decided to make him stop by a particularly amusing means.

However, it shocked Vanaya that her Other was able to easily influence her movements, especially without her knowing. Vanya made a mental note to dig more into the situation and filed it away in her mind, she had bigger things to focus on.

The girl hopped off the train and began the walk to UA. The streets leading up to the infamous school were littered with paparazzi trying to get the scoop of being the first one to discover the next most powerful first-year student of UA. Lots of applicants took pleasure in crowding in front of anyone with a microphone and shouting out their social media handles but a good number of students, like Vanya, kept their stride and continued past the UA gates, into the school.

Looking around her, most of the applicants had what looked like their school uniforms on and Vanya's casual outfit of sweatpants, sneakers, and t-shirt was drawing her attention, most of it was unwanted. From all around her, the girl could hear whispers of people talking bad about her- saying that she must be a delinquent, poor, or stupid to have shown up dressed as she did. The ignorance of people shocked her, UA had no dress code for the practical part of their exam but these students were being unfairly judgmental about what she was wearing. Although it did not bother her, Vanya still locked eyes with one girl that called her an idiot particularly loudly and glared at her. The girl went pale and grabbed her friend's hand, rushing both of them away from Vanya. Everyone that had said something similar quickly looked away when they saw the icy glare Vanya gave the girl, a chill rolling down their spines.
