A/N: tw for past death of a child, gore, fire
nightmares arent fun

Bang-bang! Thunk!Vanya's eyes flew open at the sounds that would wake even a person with regular hearing from their sleep. She groaned and shoved a pillow over her head as her neighbor continued making a racket at an ungodly hour of the early morning.
Despite Fukuda's reassurance that the walls were soundproof, there was only so much one could do to stop sounds from echoing through the air vents, which was why Vanya was woken up at- dear god, was that the time?- three in the morning by her noisy neighbor.
The girl had always had a tough time sleeping through the night with her enhanced hearing, waking up at least two or three times through the night. It was the reason she had permanent eyebags and needed to nap every day to keep functioning, as she usually could not go back to sleep once Vanya was woken up in the night.
So when she moved into her last apartment, surrounded by other people, the girl was waking up more frequently. It had taken a bit of time to get used to the increase of noise from the Academy to living in her last apartment, but she had managed to get back to sleeping somewhat regularly. This neighbor, however...
Was fucking noisy.
And he wasn't even regular about it, either. He would be gone for long hours, sometimes days, and even a week in one case, returning at odd hours to eat and pass out then leaving immediately. And he wouldn't even attempt to be quiet, probably too tired to even realize he was making noise, cursing in a grumbling, raspy voice, slamming cabinets shut, and dropping things as soon as he entered the door.
An odd thing though, Vanya realized, sometimes she could hear him come in through his balcony door, not through the building. She wondered how he managed that but she had never seen or spoken to her neighbor, so she had no idea.
Regardless, she was awake now and thinking about all the times he had woken her up before was making her mad, so the girl knew sleep would not come for a while now.
She sighed and sat up in her bed, looking around her room. The room was almost bigger than her last apartment, Reginald wasn't lying when he said that this was meant to be a gift. It was sparsely decorated, with only a bed, desk, and lamp. Her closet was almost pathetically empty, her violin was in its stand next to the desk, and Vanya didn't even have time to buy curtains yet, so the dark glass, dotted with lights from the city far below stared back at her. The ceiling-length windows just by themselves would have been great but the size of her apartment was mind-blowing, especially since she never had a space as large as this to herself.
Vanya got up and headed to the kitchen, she needed a cup of tea. She took a moment to appreciate the hallway on the way to the kitchen. The walls were painted white like the hallway and the floors were made from dark brown wood. The genkan was at the beginning of the hallway, with the kitchen and living room on the left, and the balcony in the back behind the living room. On the right, were the laundry room, the bathroom, and two bedrooms on either side of the bathroom. Currently, Vanya split her time in between the bedrooms, loving the fact that she had a choice of two rooms. The apartment had been fully furnished when she entered it for the first time and Vanya was grateful that one of her rooms housed her twin XL sized bed from her last apartment and the other one had a new, queen-sized one, the girl liked being able to choose where she could sleep based on a whim. She had slept so well knowing the bed hadn't gone to waste, too.
Setting the water to boil on her stove, the girl crossed her arms and leaned against the counter, listening to her neighbor stumble around. Either he was drunk or about to pass out from exhaustion because no way someone who was okay moved as disjointedly as that.
