Jirou Kyoka took a deep breath before looking at her partner and stepping through the threshold.

She and Yaoyorozu had been studying the building layout and discussing plans of attack for the last few minutes. They knew they were up against a tough match, one wrong step and they could fail. Kaminari was a powerhouse on his own but Vanya was on a completely different level. The team knew if she came at them with all she had, they were done for. The girls could see that from the way she completed each test on the first day with ruthless ease and precision, the foreign student was not to be underestimated. If it came to a melee, they would need to work together to incapacitate the villain team.

They planned to use Kyoka's quirk to listen to the opposing team's footsteps, finding a way to sneak around them and make their way to the fake bomb undetected, if possible. If discovered, they planned to use Yaoyorozu's quirk to help fight their way out. All they had to do was stay calm.

The girls made their way up to the approximate location of the bomb, pausing occasionally for Kyoka to stick her headphone jacks into the wall to listen for footsteps. Silence.

It unnerved her. Even if the villain team was just standing around, they could be talking and that would give her some idea of where they were. But nope, it's been total silence for the last few minutes.

When she told her partner that, Yaoyorozu's lips thinned in an anxious grimace. "Well," she said, "There's no use in just waiting around for them to make a move, let's just keep going."

The pair kept walking until they reached the top of the first set of stairs. Jirou paused, sticking her headphone jack into the wall to listen. As she expected, silence.

Tap. Tap-tap. Tap.

Kyoka paused, mouth half-open from when she was about to give her partner the all-clear to keep moving. Yaoyorozu, seeing her stop just as she was about to speak, questioned, "What's wrong?"

"I hear something." Kyoka scrunched her nose and listened closer.

Tap. Tap-tap. Tap.

The same pattern she heard before, she could hear it through the ground but something was off. Usually, sound waves couldn't travel through dense materials like the concrete the walls and floor were made of, it had a tendency to echo because it reflected rather than absorbed. But this sound was sharp and had no repercussions. It almost sounded like-

Kyoka's eyes widened as she sharply inhaled, whipping her head up to yell at Yaoyorozu, "They're in the next room-!"

Crash!

Both girls flinched hard away from the explosion, hiding their faces in their arms. When Kyoka looked up, she saw a figure standing in a hole where a section of wall used to be, dusting and debris whirling around her.

Vanya stepped out of the hole she blew in the building, Kyoka couldn't see her eyes since they were covered by her mask but she saw her face in their direction, she had zeroed in on them immediately and began throwing those blue energy spheres at them.

Kyoka dove to her right and assumed Yaoyorozu did too, from the sound of the crash of the energy against the wall behind them. She rolled out of the way and suddenly, Vanya was above her- staring down with those covered eyes.

Her hand shot down and picked Kyoka up by the neckline of her shirt. The punk girl gasped and pulled at the other girl's arm, struggling with all her might as she was lifted off her feet.
