It had been three days since you met Ted and Tracy. You still didn't get the call from Barney so you felt that Ted and Tracy were going to do something bad to you. Suddenly when you gave up on waiting, your phone rang. You waited a few seconds to pick it up so you didn't seem desperate, when you picked up the phone, you recognized the voice immediately.
"Hello." You greeted him.
"Is this Y/N Y/LN?" Barney asked.
"Yes. Barney Stinson?" You questioned.
"Yeah. So I'm going to be a dad?"
"Yeah. Do you maybe want to meet up and discuss some stuff?"
"I guess. Why can't we do it over the phone?" Barney asked. You heard squeeling and high pitched screams in the background after he said that.
"Are you with Tracy McConnell right now? You asked. "Can she hear me?"
"No it's another friend."
"Hi I'm Lily Aldrin! I can hear you by the way!" Lily introduced herself.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Y/N."
"Likewise." Lily cheered.
"Anyway," Barney said, not knowing what else to say.
"So yeah we can talk over the phone if you'd like. Just maybe if your friends aren't listening in if that's okay with you. I just don't want personal stuff being not so personal anymore." You said.
"We can meet in person. Lily was screeching about that, actually." Barney said. You laughed at that.
"Does tomorrow afternoon work? We can get lunch." You said.
"Yeah. Bye." Barney hung up the phone.
After a while of thinking about tomorrow, it finally hit you that this probably won't go well, knowing the type of person Barney is. The playboy, well dressed, jerk. You sighed to yourself and went on with your day.
The next afternoon came fast and you wore something casual but presentable. You waited at the entrance of a small restaurant. Five minutes after you showed up, you saw him get out of a taxi in front of you.
"Hi." You greeted him.
"Hi, listen. My friends, Ted and Tracy, they're-" Barney started to say, you lightly interrupted him though,
"The ones that made you go along with this. I know. And Lily too?" You asked.
"Yes." Barney replied, opening the door for you into the restaurant.
You and Barney made awkward small talk until the waiter came and asked what you wanted to eat and drink.
"Two beers please." Barney said, ordering for you.
"Barney I'm pregnant, remember." You said.
"Oh, right. Make that one beer."
It was complete silence between the two of you before you got your food. You both started eating, awkwardly.
"So we didn't come here just to eat in silence across from each other." You said, breaking the silence. "Be honest, are you going to help me raise this child?" You asked.
"No, I don't want kids." Barney answered, straight away. This made you furious. You stood up from the table and walked away.
Once you got home, you saw you had gotten a text from a random number. You opened it and read to yourself,
"Hey it's Tracy! How did lunch go?"
You added Tracy to your contacts and replied right after.
"Horrible. I asked him if he wanted to help raise our child and he answered brutally honest. He said "No, I don't want kids". What a jerk! I honestly don't see how you, Ted and Lily can stand him!"
Tracy then replied right away,
"Sorry to hear that. Tell you what, Ted and I will help you whenever you need! I know we kind of just met but yeah. Barney never wanted kids. So honestly, I'm not surprised he said that. He can be a jerk sometimes 🙄 But how do you know Lily?"
"When I was on the phone with Barney, I heard her in the background and she introduced herself. That's so sweet of you to offer that! Thank you! If he or she ever asks who his or hers father is, I'll just say Ted 😂" You replied, jokingly.
"LOL! I'm sure he wouldn't mind! Ted's always wanted kids. Did you?"
"Sort of. I've had had mixed feelings about it but too late now. What about you?"
"Yeah. Sorry Y/'N, I have to get going now. Ttyl." Tracy texted.
You decided to do some research on Barney and found his job application video (which annoyed you) and his GNB profile.
"Snobby men work for snobby companies..." You said to yourself.
