Chapter 11: A night before preparation

(Ps: Before reading this chapter, please make sure you read chapter 9 and 10 if you haven't, as this chapter is connected with that.)

When time is less, there's no time to waste. Since the teams were ready, it was declared in the Panchayat that till the competition, the boys team will reach the ground everyday in the morning and after 3 hours of their training session with Anirudh, they will be practicing themselves under Somnath's guidance as Anirudh has also the responsibility to teach the girls as well at the Chalet that is built near the ground which apparently belongs to the Das family. Thakuma made her workers do the required arrangements at the chalet for them to study and their accommodation for both boys and girls for whole day till competition. Although it was going to be a great challenge for Anirudh to handle both of the responsibilities but he was determined to face any hurdles to fight for their rights and to save their Durga temple.

It was night when Anirudh was preparing the notes from the Encyclopedia sitting on his study table. He was going to take a fresh paper, when suddenly a folded paper fell down. He opened the paper only to find out that it was the same pamphlet. He read the entire content again and a constant smile was lingering on his face while reading. "Ahaana Aas, yaani pehli kiran ki asha, umeed ki pehli kiran. Pata nahi kon ho tum, par jo bhi ho, aaj humare liye farishta thi aur har unn aurato ki awaaz, jisse inn samaj ne dabayi rakhi hai." He thought. He was now determined to find out about this anonymous messiah.

His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on his study door by his Trilochan Kaka. "Kaka, aap soye nahi abhi tak?" Anirudh asked removing his specs. Trilochan came towards him and said "Sab theek se chal raha hai na beta? Jaante hai, pratyogita kuch hi dino mein hai aur tumhe akele hi sab kuch sambhalna padh raha hai. Warna uss Krishna Nagar walo se koi madad ki ummed bhi nahi rakhi jaa sakti. Balki unki bhi madad hum log hi kar rahe hai." "Aisi baat nahi hai kaka, Krishna Nagar walo ne jagah ka intezaam kiya hai aur sabke khaane peene ka bhi bandobast wahi sambhaalne wale hai." Uttered Anirudh. Trilochan kept his hand on Anirudh's head and uttered "Hume bas tumhare liye bura lag raha hai beta. Humesha dusro ke liye tum dinn raat baithe itni mehnat karte ho..." "kaka" Anirudh intruppted him and said "main ye jo bhi kar raha hu, apne desh ko jitaane ke liye kar raha hu. Main nahi chahta ki hum hindusthaniyo ki haar unn Britishers se ho. Jaanta hu bohot mushkil hoga ye sab kyuki ek toh 2 dushman gaon ek saath hai iss pratyogita mein, aur ladkiyo ne pehle kabhi padhai nahi kiya hai naa hi ladko ne ye khel aaj se pehle kabhi khela hai, par main din raat mehnat karunga kaka."

"Par kya ye sab humse ho paayega Anirudh?" Asked Sampoorna who came there with a tray of food for him and continued "tumhe lagta hai ki ye padhai likhai sab hum ladkiyon ke bas ki baat hogi?" To which Anirudh replied "Kyu nahi Sampoorna Maa? Aap ne dekha nahi unn dusri team ki ladkiyon ko? Padhai ke saath saath kayi gatividhiyon (activities) mein bhi wo saksham hai. Toh aap log bhi unse kam ho kya?" "Unki baat alag hai Anirudh, wo angrezi ladkiyaan hai aur unme ye saari kshamtaaye hoti hai. Par hamare desh ki ladiyon ki koi tulna hai kya unse?" His kaka said and this statement indeed irked Anirudh so he stood up and said "Kaka kya keh rahe hai aap?" "Sahi toh keh rake hai jeth ji. Hamara koi mukabla hai unki kaabiliyat ke saath?" said Sampoorna."

Anirudh calmed himself and said "Unke paas ye kaabiliyat isiliye nahi hai kyuki wo angrez hai. Wo isiliye hai kyuki unhe ye sab seekhne ka mauka mila hai, jo ki humare desh ki ladkiyon ko kabhi nahi mila. Aur ek baat batayiye, unn angrez ladkiyon ke saath Bondita bhi toh thi. Aaj bhale hi wo Suzie hai, ek Britisher ban gayi hai par thi toh ek hindusthani ladki hi na."

Facing his back towards them he went towards the wall where his tennis racket was hung. Taking it in his hand he said with a smile "Yaad hai kaka, kaise uss din Bondita ne kaha tha ki ussey tennis aur Soccer khelna aata hai, piano bajana bhi aata hai. Par aaj maine dekha, ki wo inn teeno ke alawa kai cheezon mein saksham hai. Jaha ek taraf wo angrez ladkiyaan ek ek karke apni ek kaabiliyat dikha rahi thi, wahi dusri taraf, Bondita mein unn saari ladkiyon ki khubiyaan ek saath hai. Chahe wo volleyball ho ya dhanuvidya" He said remembering the morning event where he noticed Bondita playing along with the girls while introducing them. "Chahe wo sangeet ho, ya bal se khel" he smiled thinking that his Bondita was not only good singer, but a strong weight lifter as well. "Vigyaan aur tark mein toh bachpan se hi tez thi wo."

A long tear escaped from his eyes realizing that although Bondita grew up the way he expected, infact beyond he expected, but instead of being the pride of her country and an become an example for the women, she is standing against them.

"Anirudh" Sampoorna called him and that's when he realized that he has been blurting out his emotions from long. That old Anirudh was slowly coming out who use to speak his heart out. That heart which had been stiffened from past 8 years. Without getting to their notice, he wiped out those tears, wore back his spectacles, and turning towards them he said "toh main bas ye keh raha tha, aadmi ho ya aurat, angrez ho ya Hindusthani inn sab se koi farak nahi padta. Agar kisi cheeze ko seekhne ka hum lakshya bana le aur aap ussey poori shiddat se seekhe, toh aap zaroor kaamyaab honge." He covered up the entire situation sitting back to resume his work.

At Fernsby mansion, all their workers who were given the responsibility to keep an eye at both the villages, were standing with their heads down in front of Jacob, Phillips and Bondita.

"How did this happen? Suzie toh khud gayi thi unn gaon walo ko padhai ke against bhadkaane." Yelled Jacob at those worker men. "Mere jaane ke baad aisa kya hua ki unka faisla achanak se badal gaya?" Asked Bondita walking in front of each of them. "Suzie madam, hume sachme nahi pata ki kya hua kal raat..." one of them spoke up but his words were interrupted when Bondita clutched one of his collar and yelled "Toh tumhe waha kyu rakha gaya tha? Taaki tum humse aakar ye kaho ki tumhe kuch nahi pata?" Saying this she threw him on the floor.

Another worker came running from outside holding a paper. "Suzie madam, ye pamphlet mein jo bhi likha hai, ussi wajah se inn gaon walo ka faisla badla." Saying this he handed that pamphlet to her.

Bondita and Phillips read entire content and angrily glared at the men. Handing the pamphlet to Jacob she yelled at the men "toh tumlog kya so rahe the jab ye sab hua. Arrey koi tumhare naak ke neeche se ye chalaaki karke gaya aur tumhe pata bhi nahi chala. Sach batao kahi ye tumlogo mein se kisi ki chaal toh nahi?" Saying this she pointed her gun towards them. "Humne kuch nahi kiya madam, balki maine khud gaon walo ko kal raat kehte suna tha ki wo aapke kahe baaton se sehmat they par subah tak sab kuch badal gaya." One of them spoke up joining his hands. "Ek minute, tum toh kal Krishna Nagar mein pehredari kar rahe the na?" Bondita snapped as she heard his last lines. He just nodded in a yes. "Par main to kal raat sirf Tulsipur gayi thi, socha Krishna Nagar walo ko baad mein dekh lungi. Toh phir kiske baat pe sehmat hone ki baat kar rahe they wo log?" She uttered. "Lagta hai humare alawa koi aur bhi hai jo nahi chahata ki wo gaon walo ki team jeete. Aur wo bhi unhi ke gaon mein se koi hai. Probably a traitor for them" Said Jacob.

Another staff appeared in front of them. "Kya khabar hai?" asked Phillips. "Sir pata chala hai jaise kal Suzie madam ne kal raat Tulsipur walo ko bhadkaaya tha waise hi Krishna Nagar mein kisi Chandrachur ne apne aadmiyon se waise hi kaam karwaaya." As soon as they heared Chandrachoor's name Phillips and Bondita looked at each other. After few seconds they smirked and looked at that staff. Phillips approached near him and said "Very good, ab bina kisi ko pata chale uss Chandrachur se kaho ki kal shaam ko hum Fernsbys ussey milna chahte hai." "But kya wo aayega?" asked Jacob to which Bondita replied "Uncle, greed makes some people operate on the assumption that you can never get poor from taking. Ab bhale hi uske liye ussey apno pe hi back stab kyu na karna pade." She took the pamphlet and handed it to the staff and said "Chandrachur ko bulane ke baad, pata karna ki ye Ahaana Aas kon hai. Poori jaankaari chahiye mujhe uske baare mein." He nodded in a yes and left the spot.
