I thought one of the reasons that Jun was so naggy was because of his family background. He was the only child, and his parents adopted him when they were is their early 40s. He was basically their miracle child. His father was a carpenter, and his mother did menial work. Their earning power was low.
From young, he worked as a waiter, a casual laborer, a tuition teacher to earn his pocket money. He would attend school in the morning and start to work on menial jobs in the afternoon and evening. It was during one of his waitressing jobs, he was discovered by a talent scout. His first modelling work was at a t-shirt company, and he was paid $300 for it.
When he was 18 years old, his father injured his hands and was unable to work full-time. His family burden falls on his shoulders. With the money he earned from his modelling and tuition jobs, they could barely survive.
I asked him once, "Why did you continue with your degree? Why didn't you drop off from school and work full time?"
He paused for a while and answered me, earnestly, "At that time, I had money to take the bus, but no money to eat. Even once, my college banned me from taking the exam, because I didn't have the money to pay for the fees. Thank God I managed to borrow the money from my aunty and able to pay it on time for my finals. I knew that I needed the degree to get better jobs. If not, I will not be able to earn enough money to take care of my parents." He shrugged, "Just suffer for four years, eat less and use less. Then I can take care of them. I want to give my parents a better life. Something so simple like chicken is a luxury to us. Thank God that I like eggs. Eating fried eggs with soya and rice, I can do it."
"I want to earn enough, so that I can take my parents to a restaurant. Order anything from the menu, without worrying about the price. This is my first major role. The director is very kind. My first pay, I took my parents for abalone hotpot. Of course, she scolded me when she saw the bill. She argh, is like that one, always nag at me."
I see, that was where you got your nagging habits from. And I understood why he was so serious about his jobs. He always memorized the script before shooting. Although he was a little (actually a lot) awkward at first, he practiced a lot and always listened to the director's instruction. He was our acting coach favorite. He would always be early for his parts and abhor making people wait for him.
In our movie, "The Ghost Bride", he played the role as a ghost, the deceased son of a wealthy family that was haunting his family. So, trust me when I said, it took a long time for the makeup artist to turn his gorgeous looks, into a deadly and villainous ghost.
"What do you do for fun?"
He grinned wickedly. "Fuck around. No need to pay anything. Don't take so much time. Like now....."
And then, I got attacked again, by him. He really bullied me.
