It's always fun when the customers just sit there, eyes all wide, watching me work my magic.
Anytime my highschool teachers asked me "What do you see yourself doing 10years from now", I genuinely had to laugh in their face. Like who even knows if they'll live that long. Life is so fucking unpredictable at times that it's honestly hilarious how they expect us to know ourselves so well like that.
But at some point, I eventually found an answer.
It took awhile to get here tho. . . but who am I to rush the process.
"Do you...do you enjoy doing this?", many people have asked this. Many people have wondered. But my answer will always remain the same.
"If you mean bartendering, then hell yea", I poured the first ingredient, 2oz of Blue Carçao, into a ice filled collins glass. "It's not everyday you find this many interesting souls all packed into one place like this. Don't you agree?"
Just like her tattoos, this girl couldn't help but express every part of herself. From the way her voice rose about the things she was passionate about or had an interest in, or the cute way her hands animated carelessly when talking about her friends and all their midnight adventures.
Part of me wished I had even just a tiny bit of her personality. People like her were hard to come by.
I had to chuckle when she told me the ridiculous name her and her friends came up with. "Schoolmeal club? Seriously?", I shook my head laughing and poured another 2oz of liquid into the glass. One of my favorites. Hypnotique, or Hpnotiq for short. A renowned French vodka brand popular in the U.S for its fruity tropical blend.
"Till this day our senior classmates mock us for that one", she combed a finger through her hair, dimples shown. "Dahyun's the type to not give a fuck. She'll embarrass herself without a second thought, us included" Her words didn't match the fondness in her tone.
Whoever those two 'Schoolmeal Club' gyals are to this girl, they've got a bond like no other.
like gahyeon and i...
The final touch was added to her drink. A slow integration of Coconut Rum using the back of the spiral spoon for that gorgeous ombre hue.
At last, the Deep Blue Ocean cocktail was glowing just like a night out on the Caribbean beach.
"Dude, woah. That is so pretty!", a pretty drink for a pretty customer. As it should. "Is it ok for me to drink this", she giggled, eyes focusing on the way I add a vibrant maraschino cherry before stirring it altogether.
Feeling proud, I push the drink forward and laugh so loud it makes the bass around us seem small. "Be my guest..."

Closing is probably my least favorite thing about this job.
As much as I enjoy whipping up thousands of drinks throughout the night, there's always that one person who just never gets the hint...
"Sir, we're closed. If you need a cab or anything I'm more than happy to call one for you", my voice was beyond tired. Beyond annoyed with how many times I've asked nicely for him to leave and stop shouting nonsense.
"やれやれ!!", was what he repeatedly shouted.
looking at him now, he looks kinda familiar... But before I could question further, a figure ran up to him, holding him steady by the waist.
