Are pretty cool! They may seem to be scary, unpleasant creatures, but Thestrals are not harmful to humans and a very creative invention of J.K Rowling's. Luna can see Thestrals, and she is not afraid to approach, feed and even ride them. I love the scene in the Order of the Phoenix movie when Luna, Ginny, Neville, Hermione, Ron, and Harry are flying on Thestrals to the Ministry of Magic. With their dragonish wings and heads and undead, skeletal appearance, they make me think about horses differently. Thestrals could almost be a cross between a black horse and a dark dragon that eat very little and somehow have the power to be invisible to those who have not seen death.
