Today, on September 11th, 2021, I dedicate this book to those lives lost in the Pentagon, The World Trade Center, and on Flight 93.
On this day, twenty years ago, 19 hijackers associated with the Terrorist group Al-qaeda hijacked four commercial airplanes bound from the east coast to the west.
At around 8:45am that Tuesday morning, American Airlines flight 11 was the first of the four to reach it's target and crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, killing all 92 passengers on board, along with the Terrorists.
Seventeen minutes later, at 9:03am, United Airlines flight 175 crashed into the South tower of the World Trade Center, killing all 56 passenger and 9 crew members. Among the passengers were Christine Lee Hanson (2), David Gamboa-Brandhurst (3), and Juliana Valentine McCourt (4). All were bound to California for a vacation at Disneyland.
At 9:37am, American Airlines flight 77 slammed into the Pentagon in D.C.. This killed all 53 civilian passengers and the five hijackers on board as well as the crew. There were five children on board the flight ranging from 3 to 11 years of age. Bernard Curtis Brown II, Asia Cottom, and Rodney Dickens were three 11 year olds aboard flight 77 that had been awarded a special trip by National Geographic to California. The other two children on board were Dana and Zoe Faulkenberg ages 3 and 8. They had been traveling with their parents to California for an Australian vacation.
At 10:03am, two events happened. United Airlines flight 93 crashed in a field just outside of Shanksville, PA. The crash happened after several passengers attempted to regain control of the aircraft from the hijackers. There is a memorial set up at the location of the crash. At 10:03am in New York, the South tower collapsed, killing those left inside.
At 10:28am, the North Tower subsequently collapsed after burning for 102 minutes. The ash cloud from both towers stretched from lower Manhattan to the Empire State Building, almost 3 miles away.
