Chapter 21

Katie's POV
Six months later....

"Ow!" I hiss as I walk downstairs to meet Nel so she can take me to the ER. Chad and Ryan took the other kids, including Robbie out for the day to the park and the pain has been getting worse each minute.

We get to Vancouver Children's, where I'm put into a room, and Nel is texting someone as a doctor comes in.

"Alright, so I reviewed your bloodwork. Did you know that you are pregnant, Mrs. Kroeger?" He asks and I look at him with wide eyes.

"I had my tubes tied over a year and a half ago, how is that possible?" I ask and he shrugs.

"Sometimes it fails, but we can do an ultrasound to see what's going on in there." He says and I nod as they bring a machine in and do the ultrasound.

"Hey Rachel, call the OR." He says and I look at him with wide eyes.

"You're in active labor, Mrs. Kroeger. I suggest your friend call your husband because we are taking you back for an emergency C-section." He says and I nod at Nel as they wheel me away.

Five hours later, I'm in the NICU floor again with a 21 week and 5 day old baby girl.

Chad gets here rather late and I smile at him as he rushed to me.

"When Nel said you were having a C-section, I was in shock. How did it fail?" He asks and I shrug, as another doctor, James Dawson, did my tubal ligation.

We dig deeper and see that three other women have had the same issue with failed tubal ligations, one having twins, all preformed by Dr. Dawson.

"I think he didn't do it." Chad says and I shrug.

"I'll have Dr. Samples check it out." I say and she walks in.

"Alright, so Katie, your tubes aren't tied. Dr. Dawson admitted to not trying yours, two other young mothers, and a trans male's because of your ages and the fact that he doesn't agree with it and it goes against his religion. He's been put on leave." She says and I groan.

"So that baby was the cause of a man wanting his religion to come first? Good God." Chad says and I grab his hand.

"She is still our daughter, Chad. Whether or not someone was being an asshole. We need to take care of her first before we sue him for malpractice." I say and Chad nods as he kisses my hand.

"What are we going to name her?" He asks and I smile.

"How about Jessica? After your sister?" I ask and he smiles as he kisses me.

"Jessica Bailey Kroeger. So that way she is named after both my sister and your mom." He says and I smile.
