Nancy

When I wake up the next morning someone is asleep in the other bed. I thought I heard something late last night, but it seemed to be part of a weird dream. I sit up in my bed and look at the sleeping girl. My roommate. All I see is wavy blonde hair with faded green tips, tanned arms, and part of a black tattoo between her shoulder blades. She snores a little bit.

I don't have any classes today, and my plan is to continue the reading from last night. I spotted a nice Oaktree nearby that looks like a perfect reading spot. But since I don't have classes or any other scheduled plans, I lay down again, trying to catch up on some sleep after a restless night tossing and turning because of a certain someone, who's not supposed to be here, but maybe is. The soft snoring from across the room is quite relaxing, but who am I kidding?! I fell asleep with Luke's name on my lips last night, and although I don't remember dreaming about him, he is still on my mind. Is he here? Can it be? What happened to that other college? And what happened to the perfect little girlfriend of his? I need to stop these thoughts!

Quickly I get out of bed, slip on my bathrobe, and grab a towel, and head out the door and into the communal shower. Another thing I will have to get used to is not having a private bathroom.

As the hot water runs down my body, and I try to keep my hair from getting wet, because it takes forever to dry, I imagine myself also washing away my intrusive thoughts of Luke. But the water feels too comforting, and who am I kidding?! Did it ever work before? No. With my mind on Luke's perfect face and no doubt ab-licious body, I cup my own breasts (they are too small) and feel the nipples react to the touch, before I let my hands slide down my belly (it's too soft) and down between my legs. I can feel the warmth from inside of me and immediately remove my hands remembering where I am. Oh, how I miss privacy already!

With blushing cheeks, I accidentally slam the door a bit too hard – shit, I think that woke my new roommate up – when I come back to my room. The snoring stops, and the sleeping girl wakes up, rolls to her back, and looks at me with curious brown eyes. It surprises me. I must subconsciously have imagined her with blue or green eyes because of the blonde hair. Maybe she's not a natural blonde.

"Ehm... good morning. And sorry for waking you up", I whisper.

"Yeah hey, good morning, Roomie," she mumbles back and stretches like a lazy cat or something.

"I didn't mean to wake you, I was just... I'm just... getting used to. This. Shared rooms and shared bathrooms and hallways and everything." I'm rambling, but I can't seem to stop myself. The girl in the bed still looks at me with curiosity but doesn't say anything.

"Sorry, I... I'm Nancy."

"So, Nancy. Do you drink coffee?"

"Yes..." I don't know where this is going.

"Have you already had coffee today?"

"No, not yet, but I found a café nearby, and I was going to get some, if you wanna g –"

"So, you're like this without coffee?!" Her smile widens.

"Well, yes. I mean..."

She sits up, her hair is a mess, and I can't help but smile a little bit. She looks up as if to ask how bad it is, and we both laugh.

"You were going to get coffee?"

"Yes, I just have to get dressed, and –"

She interrupts me again: "Could you get me a cup too? A cappuccino with sugar." I must look confused, and she adds: "I'll Venmo you, of course!"
