Chapter 13 - Talon

My first thought when I woke up was 'Anaiya get a grip on yourself it's just a dream' and my second thought was 'ow'. I tried to sit up but immediately lay back down when pain shot through my body. I picked up my phone from the table next to me and checked the time. It was 10:50 am.

'I need help,' I thought. 'Who can I call? Chloe? No she's hurt too. Mum or Dad? No they'll worry too much. Tayla?... No. Talon? Yep.'

I clicked on Talon's number on my phone and pressed it to my ear.

Ring.

Ring.

Ring.

"Hello?" Finally he answered the phone.

"Hey," I answered. "Is mum around?"

"Yeah, do you want me to go somewhere private?"

"Preferably."

"So, what's up?"

"I need your help."

"With what."

"I went on a mission last night..."

"Oh, OK I'll be there in 10."

"Talon?"

"Yeah."

"Don't tell anyone where you're going."

10 minutes later I heard his Black Ferrari 458 Spyder roar onto my driveway. I bought it for him for his 17th birthday two months ago. He opened the door and came into the living room.

"Oh my god Anaiya!" he almost shouted. "What happened this time? Sabotage, explosion or collapsed building?"

"All of the above and why does everyone keep asking me that?"

"What are your injuries?"

"Broken arm, five broken ribs and a stab wound in my left side."

"Ouch!"

"Yep. Chloe got worse though, they had to keep her in."

"Are you two good now?"

I smiled.

"Yeah we made up yesterday."

"Good for you."

"Can you help me sit up please so I can take my tablet."

And he did. After I had taken my meds he helped me up the stairs to my bedroom and set me down on the bed.

"What now?" he asked.

"I need you to help me get changed."

His eyes widened.

"Come on Talon you've seen me naked enough times."

"Are you wearing underwear?"

I rolled my eyes.

"Only knickers but my chest is covered in bandages."

"Whatever. Let's just get this over and done with."

After he helped me change into black skinny jeans and a navy S.H.I.E.L.D. T-shirt we went back downstairs for brunch. We had fried eggs, sausages, bacon and toast. It was a bit tricky eating with only my left hand but I managed OK.

"So are you going to relax for the rest of the day."

"Nope. Duty calls. I need to get back to the base after this."

"Seriously? You should at least get the rest of the day off."

"I need to check some things out. Something went wrong last night and I need to find out why. Fury is usually in the comms loop on all of my missions but for some reason he wasn't yesterday and that's when I know something was sabotaged."

"Do you why Fury is in the comms loop on all of your missions?"

"No."

"Because of mum. You being in S.H.I.E.L.D. all by yourself she knew you wouldn't tell her anything so she asked Fury to keep her in the loops on all of your missions."

"She know everything?"

"Yep, except yesterday. No one knew about that."

We finished eating and Talon cleared up.

"Hey Talon, can you drop me off at the base please?"

"Yeah sure, but not until you've relaxed for an hour."

I sighed.
