I quickly ran to the door when there was a knock. Mick was standing there, I threw open the door, closing it right behind her.
"They showed up after you lost them and drove around the entire campus twice." She explained as we all sat at Kate's dining room table.
"Well that answers that question," Kate scoffed. We sat in silence for a bit before deciding what to do next. Eventually we came to the decision to just carry on as normal for as long as possible. I powered off my phone and shoved it in my bag. I can't trust that thing.
I mean it's not like we can do much of anything else. We don't know who these people are and the police around here don't care that much about anything that isn't an active crime. Who knows, they might even be paid off by the mafia to turn the other way.
I got back home later to my aunt speaking with my parents about the trip. She volunteered to chaperone me since neither of my parents could. I think she just wants to keep me in her sight to be honest.
She has no trust in me and in reality I guess she was right in that aspect. But I'm a legal adult and really how I live my life should be none of her concern.
"Where were you?" My mom asked as soon as I walked in the door.
"With the girls at Kate's," I replied, distractedly getting water.
"You weren't with that boy?" She asks accusingly.
"His name is Greyson and no," I rolled my eyes, "he's out of town." My mom sighed and walked towards me cautiously.
"I don't think you should be seeing him anymore." She said bluntly. I turned to her in shock and just stood there. My dad didn't say a word and my aunt left the room.
"Excuse me?" I ask.
"He seems... wrong for you," she starts. "You need someone who can give you a good, comfortable life. Not some boy covered with tattoos who probably barely makes monthly rent."
Ok I know she was probably high on drugs when she met him in the hospital but he was wearing a suit.
"Mom, he's not broke and even if he was, I love him and I would never leave him." I sighed.
"What can he give you that someone like Jace can't," my mom countered. "He seems like a bad influence." she reached for me but I pulled back.
"Enough about Jace mom! I don't care about him!" I snapped.
"He is good for you!" she yelled back, "He's going to Harvard and is well on his way to being successful!"
"He tried to rape me!" I said it. I can't take her praising him anymore. "He's a piece of shit that doesn't deserve the time of day." I mumbled. My mom stared at me in disbelief and my dad looked shocked and angry.
She opened her mouth to say something, reaching for me again. I pulled away.
"He failed, by the way." I muttered as I passed her. "In case you cared."
I went up to my room and flopped down on my bed, groaning into the pillows. I miss Greyson. I think about turning my phone on and calling him but decide not to risk it. If he told me some plan of theirs then the people listening would know.
He's already been hurt once. I don't want to risk leading him into a trap.
I laid in my misery for a good 10 minutes before there was a knock on my door.
"Go away." I mumbled, thinking it was my mom. The door creaked open and closed again. I didn't bother to look up as the person sat next to me and placed their hand on my shoulder.
