Chapter 3: My 'Tragic' Origin

I used the Subway to get home instead of using Arachnid. My parents paid a stupid amount of money on the subway pass, so I find it disrespectful to not use it. It also gives me an excuse to be inactive for a while, much to Arachnid's disappointment, but if they wanted constant adventure they should've bonded to someone else. In their defence, they didn't have much choice.

I'm going on a tangent here, but you should probably know how me and Arachnid met. I promise that it'll be important later, so just put up with it now, so you're not confused later.

It was my first time using my web-shooters. Well, they weren't web shooters per-se, I had built a polymer that could dissolve after a set amount of time. They weren't perfect, but they were mine, and I was super excited to use them. I didn't have a suit yet so I had to wait till it was dark just so I wouldn't be seen, the last thing I needed was people, particularly villains, thinking I was Spider-Man. I figured Central Park would be a good place to practice, since there were plenty of grabbing points quite low off the ground, so I headed out and made my way there.

Once I was there, I got straight to it. Launching off of every tree I could reach, it was a very satisfying experience to say the least. Of course, this wouldn't be an origin story with out an actual origin, so I'll get to that now.

After I had had my fun, I was ready to head back home, when a slight glint in the sky grabbed my attention. At first, I thought it was a plane flying overhead, but it looked like it was getting closer, and closer, until I could see what it really was. I had only barely enough time to duck out of the way before it hit me, this was before I had actual super-powers by the way. It looked kinda alien but it also had weirdly human elements too, like a strange symbol or logo that I'd never seen before. It was also really small, about the size of a Squirrel, or maybe a little bit bigger, I haven't thought about it for a while.

At this point, every part of me was screaming, telling me to run away, I'd heard rumours of other people finding and posting pictures of these weird little rocks and then coming into school or work as a completely different person, but I'll admit, my curiosity got the better of me, so I crept closer. Everything would change from that moment forward. In an instant, as I reached to grab the rock, it split open and this strange, gloopy substance leaked out. That was pretty creepy on it's own, but then the gloop decided to start moving itself. Of course I reacted, but it was that one sudden movement that alerted the gloop to my presence. It leaped from the rock, straight onto my hand and proceeded to morph its shape to envelop my entire body. I barely had the time to scream before my mouth was covered, it was that fast.

The next thing I remembered was waking up at home, thinking it was all a bad dream, but that illusion was shattered when I heard a strange voice in my head, complaining about being hungry. I won't go through all the boring details, but the gist is that  me and Arachnid are bonded now. There may be others like us, but that's a bridge I don't want to cross right now.

Sorry. I've been ranting, back to the story.

I only get to hang at home for about an hour or 2 when my phone buzzes. I reach to look at it and see that it's a message from Spider-Man. It's short, simple, and to the point. It reads 'Mysterio. Times Square. Wanna Help? ;)' I'll admit the winky face does seem a little bit off, and him needing help with Mysterio, but I'm not gonna turn down the opportunity to prove that I'm a separate hero from Spidey. I send a simple response '5 mins.' I yell goodbye to my parents as I walk out of the door, and we Jet off into action.

A/N: Firstly, thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this, it means a lot to me that there are people that actually enjoy what I write, also a little scary. Secondly, the point of this message is to say that, as of the time of writing, I've written up a 10 part story plan with the potential for a book 2, so I can firmly deliver on my promise to actually finish the story this time around. Thanks for reading.
