Chapter 10: Green Greetings

The evening comes and We arrive earlier than we told the spider to, to scope out the warehouse and ensure that we have a game plan ready for the Spider's arrival. To start with, We've strategically placed web-lines around the warehouse, so we have vantage points from all angles. We have also allowed our mask to re-cover our lower face to avoid having our breath be visible. We notice a slight crack in the ceiling near to a skylight and our smile widens as we realise we can use that to slip arachnid into the crack and unlatch the window from the inside, giving us an un-monitored access point to the warehouse. We knew that security would be bleeding-edge, considering it's an Oscorp facility, but the whole place is almost swarmed with security, we're very lucky that we literally have eyes in the back of our head.

Spidey arrives not too long after we finish our recon, dropping onto the rooftop where we were perched, patching us into his comms. "Before you say anything Spidey, is your mask soundproof?" We ask, hoping his suits tech is as advanced as ours, but aware that we have an unfair advantage. "Meaning that we can talk through our comms without worrying that others will hear us." We clarify, to a confused looking Spidey. (Those shifting eye lenses are a Godsend for non-verbal communication.) Unfortunately, Spidey shakes his head in response. "Fine, we have a way around this, but you have to promise to save the questions for later and give it back when we're done." We say as we touch Spidey on his shoulder and impart onto him an aspect of us onto his suit, just enough to confer the technological specs onto his suit, we don't like doing this as it requires an extraneous amount of effort to maintain, even over a short distance. The raw material used to transfer the soundproofing required us to deactivate the Root-shot capabilities of our suit, but we are relatively sure that capability wouldn't be used much.

As the symbiote begins to enmesh itself within Spidey's suit, and presumably his body, he looks severely freaked out, so we attempt to reassure him, " Spidey, listen to us quickly, the entity assimilating with you is an alien entity know as a Klyntar, it is a symbiotic entity that requires a living host to function, however the fragment that We've given to you is too small to hold it's own consciousness, and is therefore under our command and, by extension, yours." We see Spidey begin to calm down and attempt to speak, "Whoa, this is some full-on Sci-Fi stuff, how did you find this? Right no questions. Let's get this done Arachnid." Spidey seems relieved that he can communicate with us more traditionally now. "Right, follow us Spidey, we found a slightly unprotected entrance point" We say moving through the network of webs towards the unguarded window and, upon arriving at the window, we allowed a tendril from our finger to slip through and unlatch the window. Hearing the telltale click of the window we both slip into the warehouse, immediately greeted by the vast array of hi-tech machinery, including a fully functional fabricator unit, which we believed was a piece of tech that only Stark Industries produced.

We both surveyed the warehouse, looking for anything denoting the Klyntar, and finding a lot of military grade equipment for a project labelled simply 'Project G', including technology such as a combat suit and a personal aircraft referred to as the 'G-glider". We also found a lot of tech linking Oscorp to various other super villains, Rhino and Mysterio were obvious, but seeing tech designed to improve the lethality of Scorpion's venom and a new suit designed for electro to practically triple his electrical output were concerning. There was also seemingly a set of mechanical limbs, that weren't labelled for Project G , but did not look like tech for any villain we've ever encountered. Spidey seemed just as shocked as we were, "Hey, Arachnid. You don't think someone is working to build an elite team of Super-Villains, do you?"

"Honestly Spidey, We don't know, but it frightens us that all of this was located in a Oscorp facility. It's even more terrifying that there is tech here implying the existence of criminals we have yet to encounter, especially this Project G equipment."

Before me and Spidey could finish our conversation, Arachnid warned us of a presence in the room, and we had a split second to react before some kind of bladed spinner flew past where we were standing, nestling into the floor. As we turned around, to be greeted by a man wearing the the suit we saw the blueprint for earlier, as well as the G-glider. Everything sunk into place as we realised that this was a trap.

"Greetings, Spider-Man!" The voiced cackled "I see you brought your little side-show with you, just another pest to eradicate."

We twitch with rage as we hear them mock us. "Side-show, we'll show you a side show when we put you down." We say as we shift Arachnid back to the half mask design, and take the fragment we lent to Spidey back. "You're a gobby little fella, aren't you?" We say, letting the Brit out a little bit. "Spidey, should we show him what happens when a fly drifts into our web?'

"Gladly, Arachnid. Let's ground this guy." Spidey replies, his legs bracing as he prepares to launch himself towards the threat. We, on the other hand, decide to try something else, manipulating the ground around us, softening it, with the intention of using it to spring ourselves up, dragging the material around us for extra protection from his little blades "Let's rock this joint." We say before releasing the tension on the ground, springing us toward the figure, who really needs a name, as Spidey leaps towards the side, clearly trying to flank him. As we approach the figure, we choose to launch some of the rubble towards him as a distraction, while Spidey runs up the wall behind me, "Whoa, buddy. I didn't know you could do that. Geomancy? Did your spider come from another dimension?" I hear Spider say to me through the comms, not realising the mask isn't soundproof, therefore alerting the figure, who for now I'll call Gobby (I swear I wasn't planning on having that nickname stick.), causing him to turn and catch Spidey by the throat, shifting the glider to block our rubble, "Impressive, but ultimately futile Spider." He says before throwing him down and turning his attention to me, "He does make a salient point, however. You're a practitioner of the mystic arts, I didn't know the Klyntar could grant mystic abilities, least of all that one."

"What do you mean, that one?" We demand, desperate for answers.

"Hahaha, do you really not know, those scientists at Oscorp have been trying to reverse-engineer Spider-Man's powers for a long time. But that's all I'll say for now crossbreed." Gobby says, continuing to cackle. "Unfortunately for you, I've come prepared. Mysterio was a fool, he was specifically instructed to wait until he had visual confirmation to activate the device, but I know better. I'll give you approximately five seconds to surrender the Klyntar back to me or I'll take it by force."

We hear a pulse that isn't ours ringing through our ears and before we can identify it a sonar pulse rips through the stagnant air, and in a split-second, we fully encase ourselves in stone, softening it in the places we need to articulate, forming a makeshift armour, ready to resist the screeching wave, and rush towards Spidey, recognising the pulse from earlier as his one, fading, and seeing the blood seeping through the costume, we know we have to end this quickly.

"Hitochi!" We hear Arachnid's voice ring through our mind, "Give in to us, accept our power fully, just this once and we promise the Spider will be saved." Continuing the mental conversation, we respond "Just this once, do you understand?"

"Of course we do, partner."

"Fine, then let's do this." We say as we take a back seat in our own mind, giving in to Arachnid's influence.

For the next few moments, I experienced an almost out of body experience, my memories of what transpired are limited, but from what I asked Arachnid, due to the experiments performed on them by Oscorp on their lunar base, any creature bonded to Arachnid leaves an imprint of their genetic code on them. Arachnid used this function to grant me the Spider powers to begin with, as they bonded to various arachnoid creatures. In this scenario, Arachnid unlocked their latent gene manipulating potential and infused my genome with various alien DNA to create the apex predator, Arachnid then essentially disabled Gobby's sonic weaponry, as well as displaying an increased resistance to it, which scared Gobby away. That next thing I knew, I was back home, and it was the next morning. Spidey also didn't know what happened, mostly due to the blood loss, but also due to the sheer speed at which it all happened.

Arachnid says that should I allow him full access to my body and genetic coding on a more permanent scale, I could learn to control this apex form, which based on the knowledge of my personal taste and naming conventions, Arachnid suggest I name GoetiArachnid.
