Fresh on the tail of Rhino, Arachnid is giving us the run-down on the 3 new webbing variations that were added to the suit.
'The suit now possesses three additional webbing types, with specific applications. We have named the three categories; Net-shot, Anchor-shot, and Root-shot.'
"Very helpful." We say, aloud because it makes our communication make more sense in our head, despite the fact that we could be having this conversation telepathically. "What does each shot do?"
'The Net-shot fires from each individual spike in our gloves, inter-weaving themselves as we fire them, forming a net to hold down, or hold up a target. In combat, the net can be used to block enemy paths, protect civilians from collateral damage, and incapacitate groups of enemies. In summation, the Net-shot's primary application is crowd control, but can be utilised in traversal as a springboard of sorts, allowing for the generation of forward momentum if fired ahead of our path and used accordingly. Both Anchor-shot and Root-shot have similar functions, providing you with webbing tethers, firing from the spikes in our shoulder pads and shoes respectively, that allow for either sharp manoeuvres in traversal, or in the combat scenario awaiting us with Rhino, the tethers can be used to increase the strength of a pulling force against him, potentially resulting in a complete stoppage of movement. A feat which has otherwise proved impossible to our more widely-recognised contemporary.'
"Brilliant, We think we have the hang of this, and not a moment too soon, Rhino dead ahead."
As expected Rhino is rampaging through the city, however the trail of destruction leads back to a Roxxon laboratory, an unusual target for Rhino. Slung over Rhino's back is a crate, its hard to make out from this distance but the diagram on the crate is reminiscent of the machine that Mysterio was using.
Arachnid must have notices the diagram as well, especially since the next we hear is him begging.
'Hitochi, we must contact Spider-Man immediately and allow him to deal with this threat, that device is somehow capable of nullifying our bond and rendering us useless.'
'It's too late for that Arachnid,' We say telepathically to avoid any eavesdropping from Rhino, or any associates of his, as he's definitely not working alone. "Spidey's already left this to us, and so long as we deal with Rhino before the device can be activated, we will be fine."
We decide to put our Net-shot to the test, swinging above Rhino and firing the Net-shot a short distance ahead of him, before launching off the net to dive towards Rhino, aiming for the small part of face not covered by his armoured carapace. Rhino effortlessly dodged our attack, but not the result web shot we fired onto his shoulders as we passed him by. We pull ourself onto Rhino's back and fire our Anchor-shot into the buildings on either side of street, along with as many strands of webbing as we can shoot from our hands, We feel Rhino begin to struggle under the excess weight. We attach the webbing from our wrists onto Rhino's back and jump down, firing a second Net-shot around his legs. Rhino does break this net shot, however it slows Rhino down a extra modicum, allowing me to attach my Root-shot into the ground and web onto Rhino's legs just as he reaches my initial Net-shot, all of this effort just barely brings him to a standstill.
"Whoa buddy, you can't park there." We quip, hanging from a streetlight directly in front of his face. "You'll hold up traffic."
Having the lower half of our face visible was a good choice, we can see Rhino get increasingly angry as a result of the smug grin on our face. We look down, or We guess up for those of you who aren't upside-down, and see a slight smoke trail leading away from Rhino. The trail was weird as there were two, about equidistant apart, the trail was quite distinctive, but We couldn't think what or who could've left a trail like that.
We decide to leave that thread for later, and instead turn to the crate on Rhino's back. The diagram on side of the crate also had a label, referring to the machine as a 'Klyntar Disruption Emitter', Arachnid had a slight reaction to seeing the word 'Klyntar' so We decided to leave the clean-up to the police and interrogate Arachnid about his reaction to the word while heading to school, which thanks to our upgraded traversal, we should reach just before the start of second period, thanks a lot Rhino.
"Alright. Talk."
'You are already aware that We are an entity from another planet, correct?'
"Yes. But what has that got to do with anything?"
'The word Klyntar originates from our homeworld, it is the name of our race.'
"So if Roxxon know what that word is, then that means that..."
'There are others like us, or at the very least, there are other members of our species on this planet.'
"This has suddenly become a lot bigger than us, we may need to bring in Spidey, We'll message him now and try to sneak into the Roxxon lab tonight, and see if we can find any answers."
As We open our phone to message Spidey, We notice a collection of missed texts from Peter, most relate to us not being in class, he apparently wrote notes for us, which is very sweet, but one stands out, he's asked if We wanted to join him and MJ for lunch today. We usually try to get a little bit of Spider work done during our lunch break, but as we drop down behind the school, away from anyone who might see us, as the suit shifts back into my regular clothing, I reply to Peter's messages, deciding to contact Spidey later.
'I'm sorry I've missed ur texts, I was caught up by a fight between Rhino and I think it was Arachnid in a new suit. anyway, I'd love to join you for lunch. I'll be in school in like 5 mins, c u then.'
I know that the Rhino excuse is a little on the nose, but in my defence, people always say write what you know. Also, I did really want Peter to figure it out at this point, cuz I planned on asking him out after he finally figured out my identity, because I don't want to start my relationship with him with any secrets kept between us.
I'm visibly smiling as I walk into school, eagerly awaiting the afternoon with Peter, while dreading the possibilities of the lab recon in the evening, hoping Spidey can help me out.
