Chapter 7: Craving

Clark's at Liana's and Liana says, "Thanks for the lifeline." Clark says, "It's a math midterm. It's like, uh I didn't pull you out of a burning building." Liana says, "I still appreciate it." Aunt Nell comes and says, "Liana? I wanted to get your opinion on the balloons. Now, I think white always looks good." Liana smiles and says, "White sounds perfect." Aunt Nell smiles and says, "Okay." Aunt Nell leaves and Liana says, "This whole birthday extravaganza has been pretty distracting." Clark says, "I don't know, having a birthday party at Lex's mansion seems, pretty cool to me." Liana says, "It does seem cool, but Nell's doing everything. I feel like it's even really about me anymore. If it was up to me it would be pizza and movies with my friends." Clark says, "Did you tell Nell that?" Liana says, "We've been through a lot the past few months. I figure she'd be happy if she planned the party for me." They both see Whitney and he says, "Liana, guess what." Liana smiles and says, "The scout called!" Whitney smiles and says, "I just heard, I got the tryout with Kansas State." They hug and Liana smiles and says, "That's incredible!" Clark says, "Hey, congrats." Whitney says, "I haven't said yes yet. They want me there on Saturday, but that's your big night." Liana sighs and says, "It's Nell's big night. I was just telling Clark it wasn't important." They both look at Clark and Clark says, "Yeah, scout's honor." Liana softly smiles and says, "I want you to go." They both smile at each and kiss. Later, Liana goes to the Kent's and says, "Hello." Mrs. Kent says, "Liana, hi. Come in." Mr. Kent says, "Hey. Liana, can I interest you in a latte?" Liana smiles and says, "Sure, that sounds nice." Mr. Kent says, "One, latte coming right up." As Mr. Kent fixes up Liana's latte, Liana says, "I brought over the produce order for the party." Mrs. Kent says, "You could have called it in." Liana says, "And miss a chance to get out of the house? Nell's planning this party like a royal wedding." Mr. Kent gives Liana her latte and Liana says, "Thank you, Mr. Kent." Mr. Kent smiles and says, "Your welcome." Liana takes a sip and then Clark comes in and says, "Dad, I got the posts in the west field. I hit some granite, but I jammed it through." Clark turns and notices Liana and panics. Liana says, "Very impressive." Clark says, "I had a sledgehammer." Mr. Kent says, "Somebody's gotta work around here." Clark nods his head to Liana and she smiles and grabs her mug to follow Clark. Clark says, "Thought you'd be posing for ice sculptures by now." Liana says, "I'm hiding out." Clark says, "You have my sympathies. Whitney's not even here for backup." Liana says, "I know, I was contemplating stowing away in the back of his truck on Saturday." Clark says, "A no-show at your own party. That would keep the town talking." Liana says, "I wouldn't do that to Nell. It's just, all this attention is a little unnerving." Clark says, "Well, if you like, I could be your escort on Saturday." Liana slightly smiles and says, "Really? You'd do that?" Clark says, "Yeah, you know, so I can fend off the throngs of the adoring fans." Liana smiles and says, "Okay." Clark says, "Great." Liana says, "I better go, um, if I'm away too long Nell will probably send out a search party. And Clark... promise me you'll make it." Clark says, "I promise." Liana smiles and walks away to put her mug down and says, "Bye, Mrs. Kent." Mrs. Kent says, "Bye." Liana then leaves the Kent's.
