Chapter 21: Tempest

At school, Liana overhears Pete and Clark's conversation about what color tie to get and Liana says, "I don't know Clark. Red always looks good on you." Clark says, "Then Red it is." Pete says, "Thanks. Now I have to go make a call and change my order. Don't want people mistaking us for twins." Clark says, "Yeah, 'cause that happens all the time." Liana smiles and says, "You seem really excited about the dance." Clark says, "I am, but between the tickets, renting the tux, and buying the flowers it gets expensive." Liana says, "You should try finding the right dress. Guess the limo's out." Clark says, "I'm really thinking of asking Lex if I can barrow his. Chloe says she doesn't care but, deep down I know she does. I'm trying to surprise her, so keep it between us." Liana says, "My lips are sealed." As Liana opens her locker, Clark says, "Chloe?" Chloe says, "They're closing the LuthorCorp plant." Later, Whitney has Liana's eyes covered and taking her somewhere. Whitney says, "We're almost there." Liana laughs and says, "Alright." Whitney says, "Okay. Stop. Open your eyes." Liana opens her eyes and smiles at the picnic Whitney did and says, "Wow. Why are you being so mysterious?" Whitney says, "Can't a guy plan a picnic for his girlfriend?" Liana says, "I'm not complaining. It's just kind of spontaneous." Whitney says, "Are you saying I'm usually boring?" Liana laughs and says, "I'm saying this is very nice. I'm just wondering what the occasion is." They both sit on the blanket and Whitney has a Red Rose in his hands and gives it to Liana. Whitney says, "It's to thank you for everything. It's been a rough year and you've stood by me. Those times I pushed you away and you could have made other choices. You didn't." Liana smiles and says, "We've been together a long time. I'd never abandon you when you needed me." Whitney says, "There's something I want to tell you." Whitney goes through his backpack and gives Liana a envelope. Liana says, "What's this?" Whitney says, "Read it." Liana opens it up and reads it, "United States Marine Corps?" Whitney softly smiles and says, "I enlisted. I think it's the right thing for me to do. When I found my dad's metals I felt like he was telling which path I should take." Liana says, "You can't do this for your father." Whitney shakes his head and says, "I'm not. I'm doing it for us. Please...don't be mad." Liana says, "I'm not mad. I just think it's so fast, you know? I need some time to process it." Whitney says, "I don't have a lot of time. I ship out for basic training Saturday night." Liana says, "What about graduation?" Whitney says, "The only thing I'm gonna miss in Smallville is you. Will you wait for me?" Liana softly says, "Yeah, I'll wait for you." Whitney smiles and softly kisses Liana. Later, Liana's wiping down a table at the Talon, when she notices Clark come in with a crestfallen look and says, "Clark. Out wandering the streets of Smallville? What is it?" Clark says, "Did you know that Chloe might be leaving for good? Not really sure I believe it's true though." Liana says, "No, I didn't know. I know the feeling though." Clark says, "You do?" Liana sighs and says, "Whitney's going off to join the Marines." Clark says, "That's intense." Liana says, "He told me he was doing it for us. He asked if I'd wait for him." Clark says, "Really? What did you say?" Liana softly smiles and says, "I said yes." Clark smiles and says, "I'm sure you really made his day." Liana smiles and says, "Yeah I did." Clark says, "When does he head out?" Liana slightly frowns and says, "Saturday night." Clark says, "I guess you don't have to worry about your dress." Liana softly laughs and says, "I can't believe both Whitney and Chloe are gonna be out of our day-to-day lives." Clark says, "Me neither." Liana says, "I guess we get left behind, Clark."

It's the day that Liana takes Whitney to the bus stop to leave. They're both at the school and Whitney says, "It's hard to believe. I thought my whole life was in that trophy case. Now it all seems so trivial." Liana says, "We should get you to the bus station." Whitney says, "Hey...my bus doesn't leave for an hour. How about we go check out the gym?" Liana says, "Okay." Whitney kisses Liana's forehead. They go check out the gym and Liana says, "It's beautiful." Whitney says, "Where is everyone?" Liana says, "It's an hour before the dance the setup committee goes home early to get ready." Whitney plays a song and says, "You're missing the spring formal because of me. We still have time for one last dance." Liana softly smiles and places her head on Whitney's shoulder and he wraps his arms around her waist and they slow dance. Whitney says, "I'm sorry I didn't tell you I enlisted sooner." Liana says, " It's okay. I think you're very brave."  Later, Liana and Whitney notice people coming in for the dance. Liana and Whitney see Clark and Chloe and Liana says, "Wow, you guys look great." Chloe smiles and says, "Well, thank you, Ms. Rivers. It's Faux Wang." Whitney says, "Well, I guess this is it." Clark says, "Good luck, Whitney." Whitney looks down at Liana and says, "Liana, can I have, a minute alone with Clark?" Liana says, "Sure. I'll, uh, bring the truck around." Whitney gives her the keys and she smiles and says, "Thanks." Liana walks away and gives them space to talk. Later, Liana and Whitney arrive at the bus station. Liana says, "Do you have everything?" Whitney says, "You're only allowed one bag." Liana softly laughs and says, "Then I'd never make it as a Marine. I want you to have this for good luck." Liana hands him her special necklace and Whitney says, "I won't lose it this time." Liana softly smiles and they hug each other goodbye. Whitney says, "Goodbye, Liana." Whitney then gets out the truck and closes the door. Liana sadly watch's him leave. Liana then gets out the truck and gives him one last hug and Whitney says, "I loved you the first moment I saw you. I'll still love you when I see you again." They pull away from the hug and kiss each other one last time.  They pull away and Liana softly says, "I love you too, Whitney."  Whitney smiles and gets on the bus. Liana watch's him leave. Liana gets back into the truck to drive home. As Liana is driving she's crying, when she notices it's lighting and really windy outside. Then a rack of mailboxes land on the truck and she starts swerving into a ditch. The truck crashes and the windshield is cracked. Liana breathes heavily and gets out the truck to see three tornados coming her way. Liana gets back into the back into the truck for safety. Liana's really scared for her life. Liana watch's how the tree tornado's turn into one tornado. Liana gets out her phone to try and call for help, but's it's not working." Liana then sees Clark and says, "Clark! Clark!" Liana is screaming as the tornado takes the truck with her in it up with it.

Since in this episode, Lana didn't know how she feels about Whitney, but Liana knows how she feels about him, So Whitney tells Clark to promise to watch out for Liana.
