Chapter two
Attack on the Boat
Angelica's POV:
Jonathan smoothed out his suit as we stood at the docks. Francisco ran a hand through his hair and Evelyn said "where are they?" "I don't know but they need to hurry. Rick is a complete scoundrel." I said while crossing my arms in front of my chest. Evelyn nodded in agreement. "You think he's a scoundrel?" Jonathan asked. I turned to look at him and said "yes. He's not even professional." "So, he's not a good kisser?" "I didn't say that. I said he wasn't professional." "So, he is a good kisser?" "I didn't say that either." "Well, which is it?" I shook my head and said "Jonathan, that doesn't matter." "Do you like him?" "I don't even know the man. He's nowhere near as professional as you." Jonathan smirked to himself and I said "stop. He's just...not put together like you are." "Is this someone I know?" Rick's voice said. I turned around to see that he was completely clean shaven and his hair was cut. He looked like a professional adventurer. "Mr. O'Connell, are we ready to go?" I said. He nodded and said "yeah. We should go ahead and get on the boat. Troy, you ready to go?" Troy adjusted his glasses on his face and said "yes, Rick. Hello, Naomi." Naomi looked at him and said "hello." Rick looked at all of us and said "so, we need to be introduced to this little crew of yours." "I'm Evelyn Carnahan and that's my brother Jonathan." Jonathan nodded to Rick who nodded back. "I'm Angelica Hurley and the teenager next to me is my brother Francisco." Francisco said "nice to meet ya." "Nice to meet you, Francisco." "I'm Naomi Ayden. I'm best friends with Angelica." "So, your name is Angel." Rick said. I shook my head and said "no, it isn't. Jonathan calls me that." "And why is that?" Jonathan scratched the back of his head and said "it's just a nickname I gave her. That's all." Rick quirked an eyebrow and then chuckled. "You two were together weren't you?" Jonathan played with his sleeves nervously and I said "it's none of your business." Rick continued to chuckle and then we all got onto the boat. "He's infuriating." I mumbled. I followed Naomi to the room her and I would be sharing. I set my luggage down with a huff. "Nice room the two of you have here." Jonathan said. "Goodbye, Jonathan." I said as I pushed him out of the room. "If Naomi ever gets on your nerves, you're always welcome to share with me!" "No, thank you!" I closed the door and Naomi chuckled. "Seems like he's still in love with you." I shook my head and said "no, I don't think so. I think it's just friendly banter. As he always did." "Some friendly banter."

As the sun set, we were on our way to Hamunaptra. We all quickly found out that there was another group looking for the treasures of the city of the dead. Dr. Allen Chamberlain was a very educated Egyptologist and was leading his own crew of treasure hunters; Mr. Henderson, Mr. Burns, and Mr. Daniels. Beni, who had known Rick in some way, was taking them to the city. I sat down at a table and was reading the map. Rick dropped his duffel bag onto the ground, making me jump. "Oop, I didn't mean to scare you." I half smiled and said "it's fine." I then looked back down at the map. Rick sat down across from me. "Hello." He greeted. I looked up and said "hello." He took out his rucksack which held all kinds of knives and weapons. I picked one up and examined it. "What are all of these for?" I asked. "Protection." He replied. He took the knife from me and I sighed softly. "Uhm, Mr. O'Connell?" "Yes?" "Why did you kiss me?" "I was about to be hanged. It seemed like a good idea at the time." I scoffed and said "so, you just kissed me for no reason?" Rick shrugged and I rolled my eyes, walking away. Jonathan was playing cards with the other men and Troy walked over to Rick, the two of them conversing. "Angel, come be my good luck charm." Jonathan said. I walked over and the men introduced themselves to me. Naomi was sitting with Evelyn and the two of them were chatting. Francisco was currently smoking a cigar and was choking. I took it from him and chucked it into the water. "Angelica!" He groaned. "You're such an idiot!" I said. "Looks like you lost, Carnahan." Mr. Burns said. "Looks like Miss Angelica ain't your lucky charm. Seems like she's mine." Mr. Henderson said as he smirked. I rolled my eyes and Jonathan said "you're a bumbling idiot who got lucky." "Enough with the bickering, I'm going to change and then I'll be no one's lucky charm." I said as I walked away. I set the map to Hamunaptra on a table in my room. I then changed into some sleepwear. A nightgown. I was still thinking about Rick and I's kiss. "It wasn't even that good of a kiss!" I told myself. I pulled my hair out of the tight ponytail it was in, shaking it out. I had dropped my hair tie onto the floor. I leaned down to pick it up. When I stood up, there was a man standing next to me. I gasped as he quickly held a knife to my throat. "The map! Where is it?" I pointed to the table and said "there!" "The key! Where is the the key?" "What key?" "The key! I know you know where it is!" I was completely flabbergasted. I didn't know anything about any key. "Angelica!" Rick said as he kicked my door in. I looked over at him and the man threw me to the ground, going after Rick. A second man came into the room and grabbed me. I yelped as I was grabbed from behind. I quickly grabbed a candlestick and stabbed the man in the eye. He let go of me and I quickly made my way over to Rick as he managed to beat the first guy up. He pulled me out of the room and I gasped. "The map!" I went to go back for it. "Nope! You don't need the map! It's all up here." Rick pointed to his head and I said "well, that's comforting." My eyes widened when I saw there was men all over the boat. "Troy!" Rick called. "Taking care of them now!" He replied as he shielded Naomi from bullets. "Angelica!" I heard Jonathan's distant calls. "Jonathan! Where are you?" I yelled. "Hold this." Rick said as he handed me a duffel bag. Rick shot a couple of guys and the boat was beginning to catch fire. Rick had to reload. Bullets whizzed by, almost hitting him. I grabbed Rick by his shirt, pulling him out of the way as two bullets nearly hit his head. He gulped and then looked at me. "Thanks." "No problem." "Angelica! These guys are trying to kill me!" Francisco said as he rushed over to me. I quickly grabbed him and shoved him behind me. Rick grabbed me and pulled me away from the two guys he had just shot. Francisco stood next to me. "Can you swim?" Rick asked. I furrowed my eyebrows and said "what?" "Can you swim?" "When the occasion calls for it, yes!" "The occasion calls for it!" Rick said as he picked me up and threw me into the river. Francisco jumped in next to me. I came up for air and noticed Evelyn a few feet away from me. Francisco pushed his hair out of his face and I saw Troy throwing Naomi overboard. She screamed as she fell into the water. "Damn you, Whitley!" She said as she came up for air. Rick jumped in along with Troy. Jonathan was the last to jump into the water. Rick guided us out of the river, onto the shore. "We've lost all our equipment!" Evelyn said. I huffed and said "all my clothes." I was angry at myself for wearing a white nightgown that was now slightly see through. I crossed my arms in front of my chest quickly and Jonathan walked over, standing in front of me. He took off his suit jacket gave it to me. It was heavy since it was wet but now at least I'd be covered. He looked down at my chest as he buttoned it. "Jonathan." I said. "It's nothing I haven't seen before, Angel." He replied softly. I nodded and he stepped away from me. Francisco made the biggest deal that his sweater was now wet. Troy flipped his hair out of his face and was trying to dry his glasses. "Hey, O'Connell! Looks like I've got all the horses!" Beni yelled. "Hey, Beni! Looks like you're on the wrong side of the river!" Rick taunted. "What happens now?" Francisco asked. "We make our way to Hamunaptra. And get the girls some proper clothes." Rick said as he began to lead us into the dark of the night.
