The day after our meeting, Winston had called me in for briefing. I believe it would be a short one, since I've no combat experience to speak of.

I left Amélie to snooze for the remainder of the morning. I had scribbled a note so she wouldn't worry were she to wake early.

I knock on the door to the meeting room.
"Come in!", I hear Winstons loud bombastic voice call out.
I walk in and close the door behind me.
"Ah, Y/N! Take a seat!"
I sat down and simply nodded to him.

"I've called you here because we will be attempting an unconventional method for retrieving the experiment notes that your...torturer keeps."
I simply nodded. Anytime I thought about that place, I just couldn't focus. My mind raced, my vision grew blurry and I was barely able to breathe let alone speak.
"What do you have in mind?", I ask.
"We'll be deploying you with the team."

Within seconds my heart rate heightened again. I clawed at the edges of my seat as I tried to get a grip.
Winston tried to assure me.

"I understand what that means to you. But if we need to find the files in a proper manner, then we need you on site. You've undergone these terrors. So you would understand what blueprints and formulas to look for. Even Moira or Sigma would have no luck in identifying the documents. I apologize for asking this. But it is the only way we currently have to even have a chance at finding the documents fast enough."

I sat bound to the chair. I wanted to say no. To decline. But if this was the only way. But the lab. The madman.
"Know that this is simply a request and that I do not need your answer now. You can decline if you wish, but I would urge you to think this through. Take some days off. Discuss this with whoever you wish. Let me know what you want to decide. And take it easy. We're all here to help each other. That includes you."

I forced myself to get up from the chair. I thanked Winston and left the meeting room.
My mind raced. Flashes of the past showed within my mind. Grey metal walls, white floor tiles, all brightened up by the white tubelights on the ceiling.
The wheels of the beds creaking as they were rolled through the corridors as the screams in the lab at the end of the hall never ended.

"Chèrie?"
Her voice. I got startled again. I looked up to see Amélie look at me with worry on her face.
"What happened? You look like you've seen a ghost?"
She immediately starts feeling my head and trying to figure out what was wrong.
"They asked me to go with the crew to reclain the files..."
I felt sick as the words rolled out of my mouth. How could I join them? I'd just be in the way.
I suddenly snap out of my thoughts as I feel Amélie's warm embrace.

Time slowed down. My surroundings mattered no more.
"Chèrie. Worry not. I will join you and the rest. I once promised I'd keep my eye on you. And I will keep it. Pour toi, mon amour."
I just grabbed onto her. I thanked her over and over again.

Timeskip to the mission, in the heli

I wore my long leather jacket over my normal lab uniform today. Luckily, because the flight was outrageously cold. Apparently, this monster decided to hole up all the way in the mountains up north.
Amélie sat next to me, her combat attire hidden underneath a jacket we bought for her just the week prior.

The flight was quiet. Until the girl named D.va spoke up.
"Don't worry. The mission will be over before you realize it!"
I looked at her and simply smiled and nodded.
"I sure hope so. I'd rather not spend any more time than necessary where that man lays in hiding."

Amélie simply laid her head on my shoulder. I replied by throwing my arm over her shoulder and holding her close.
At this point, our pilot warned us that we were about to arrive. Eveyone got in their battlegear as the heli slowly but surely landed and the door on the back opened.

We walked out as the pilot wished us good lcuk ans took off again. We turned to see the huge complex in the distance.

"Just a short hike, people.", spoke Lucio, as he started skating his way through the snow. We all followed, wary of our surroundings.
Snow gave way under our weight. Nature became less and less present the closer we got to the site. My heart was beating in my throat as we got closer. The only thing that kept me from running was Amélie. She stayed by my side every step of the way. No matter what came or what befell us. She was there.

"Amélie. Thank you for... For this. For sticking with me. I don't think I would be able to go back to this place without you."

She offered me a smile as her hand intertwined with mine as we climbed and walked.

"You have saved me, chèrie. What kind of person would I be if I did not do the same for you?"

We got close enough to the complew for everyone to slow down and prep their gear. I just rubbed my hands and looked up at it.

"Alright. We guide Y/N in, grab the documents and get our butts out of there.", Said Lucio.

We all nodded as he opened the door to the rooftop entrance.

Making our way down the stairwells and different labs, we found almost no resistance. But the hallways... I remembered them. It felt as if the walls were coming down around me.

But I kept going. We all did. We made it to the archives after a short while. All I needed to do was find the right file. The dusty archives were not the greatest place, as light was not much in abundance here. It was very chaotic. Paper after paper I read, without finding anything.

And then we heard it. That dreadful voice.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't L/N. It is rare for an experiment to return to me."
