"Y/N, how've you been honey? When did you come back?", the woman asked standing across the counter that separated the two of you. She looked as beautiful as ever and it seemed like she hasn't aged a bit.

"I've been alright, I just came back few days ago"

"Oh how didn't I notice?", she wondered.

"Well, I spent most of my time cleaning the apartment and unpacking, besides that I've only gone to school, then work. Sorry for not stopping by"
You were actually sorry, because you weren't exactly planning to visit them since you didn't want to see her son, but you'd never say that to her. But in all honesty, you really missed the woman because sometimes you really thought of her as your mother.

"Don't mind, I know it's been hard after your grandma passed away", she carefully grabbed your hand that rested on the counter, squeezing it lightly. Her touch warm and welcoming.

Of course the neighbors heard about the news since most of them were close to your grandmother. Nevertheless, you gave her an assuring look and a nod of appreciation for her consideration.
"Come for dinner when you have free time, I know Keisuke would be so happy to see you again"
You nodded in affirmation, secretly knowing that it wasn't true
"Speaking of him, he didn't tell me you were back"

"Ah, he probably doesn't know since we didn't run into each other"

"Well I'll make sure to tell him and make him to stop by", internally you started to panic. It was obvious he didn't tell her about the current relationship between you two and you really didn't want to make it awkward.

"Oh you really don't have to-"

"Nonsense, he's as dense as always, and I'm sure you can't wait to see him too"
You forcefully smiled at her. No way this is happening. You weren't prepared to see him and sure as hell he certainly didn't want to see you as well.
But then again, maybe he changed?
For the longest time, you really hated and blamed yourself for everything, until it clicked that the situation wasn't exactly your fault.
He was the one that broke it all off.

His mother left the convenience store soon after finishing with her shopping and your shift was about to end as well.

You picked up your stuff and after putting on your jacket you went towards the exit, waving goodbye to the coworker who took the next shift.
The walk wasn't that long and just when you rounded the corner, someone else stood there, oblivious to your presence. That was until...

"What are you doing here?", you muttered loud enough for the person to hear.
Entering your apartment complex, it was unavoidable to notice the figure leaning on the railings just across your apartment door.
When noticing you getting closer, the figure propped himself up from his elbows that rested on the cold metal to walk up to you.

"Mom said you came back"
His footsteps echoed through the empty hallway. He was in his casual clothing with a black hoodie, pair of dark grey sweatpants and some sneakers to match.
You noticed how grown up he became. His hair longer, face features contoured more sharp than you remembered. He also grew taller and the more you looked at him, you realized that he really became a full grown man rather than a boy you used to play with on the playground.

"Okay? That didn't answer my question"

"What's with the attitude?", his eyebrow quirked up.

"What? Is it annoying you again?"
Passing by him without a bother, he turned around following your every step with his eyes that shone like bronze. You felt his gaze, but nevertheless continued to go to your door while rummaging through your schoolbag trying to find your keys.

"Oh come on, I thought you'd forget about that"

"Well, I guess I didn't", he stood quiet, both of you looking into each other's eyes.
"I have homework to do, goodb-"

"I missed you"

Not the words you wanted, or better say needed, to hear from him. Although it got your blood pumping from various kinds of reasons, one of them being resentment. Because right now, his face only reminded you of that damned day.
"Should've thought about that before"
The door shut close.
