Y/N wasn't oblivious to the change in Baji's behavior, but then again, he was always weird. He regularly came to her place for some tutoring and she couldn't but notice how more quiet he became, or better say, obedient.
Sometimes she caught herself overthinking If she said something to make him act this way.

After all, she still didn't pin where exactly their relationship stood on.
What will happen after she helps him? Will they spend time together occasionally, disregarding the whole school thing?
For her, the friendship they had in the past was still stuck there and she didn't feel that it was the same one as they have now.

She realized no matter how much the things got fixed, there will always be that one nail in the board that would stay bended, unable to be restored it to its previous form. It would always stay crooked.

Well, maybe it didn't matter anyway. Emma and Hina started growing on her and she felt that they became close enough over the time they spent together. Y/N didn't realize how much she lacked in having an all girl friend group.
It was fun, talking about their inner problems, doubts and even boys, when the theme would go in that direction. Both of the girls were mentioning their boyfriends from time to time, sometimes even asking the h/c girl about her personal preferences in a person, mostly wanting to set her up with someone if they found a mach. Y/N always shrugged them off, not wanting to pry into that topic at the moment.

She thought about it occasionally, she wasn't going to lie to herself. The only crush that still didn't subdue was the actor from her favorite show.
In real life, however, she was still under the influence of the broken heart. So, eventually she stopped trying that much, accepting it in the end and forgetting that it ever happened.

From what was left, only stayed the confusing Baji Keisuke with whom she still wasn't sure how close they actually were.

"Watch where you're going", you notified the male who almost hit the lamppost as he walked with his face stuck in the notes he was rereading before the exams today. He managed to dodge it with you lightly pulling him by the hem of his school uniform to the side.
Tossing a side glance towards you and muttering a short, barely audible 'thanks', he went back to the notes again.

How did you ever had crush on this guy when you were little? Seriously...
But, then again, you were proud of how much he changed and how serious he was getting about school. He wasn't stupid, just plain lazy sometimes.

You didn't have to worry about yourself that much since you had confidence in your knowledge. You studied hard after all, and it's only the first day for the exam week.

"What did you get? What did you get?!", Chifuyu frantically asked over Baji's shoulder with a loud whisper while the before said male stared at the red ink in shock.
The exams were finally over after a few days and the students have been handed the results of the last test they had.

Sixty-eight points on his biology test. He passed. Along with other results they got that day, he couldn't believe he actually did something good, and of course, he knew who was responsible for helping him reach that.

The teacher shushed down the students who celebrated the end of the torturing week of exams and began scribbling something on the board.
Baji only remember hearing something about a camping trip, but the details about it went into one of his ears and exited through the other one. He was impatiently waiting for the bell to ring and rush to the classroom where Y/N was.

"I got 68 points on my biology test", he grinned proudly, giving the paper to the h/c haired girl who got startled when he suddenly showed up from behind. He circled one of his arms over her shoulder and held the test in front of her so she could see. Caged between his rather large arms and with his head that loomed over her shoulder, she could actually smell the faint fragrance of subtle sweetness of his perfume.

You can't catch feelings by something so meaningless. Right? It only caught you off guard, that's all.
But then again, you weren't oblivious to how your heart couldn't stop beating so harshly against your chest.

"It'd be even better If I scored just one more", he finally stepped away, letting you look over his messy handwriting mixed up with teacher's corrections.
Leaning on the wall, he crossed his arms over his chest looking all smug and proud about himself.

"Yeah, it's a shame really", Chifuyu showed up beside him, shook his head in approval to the black haired boy's statement.

"You mean two more? You almost got a B on this test"

"No, I said it right"

You mentally facepalmed and handed the paper back to him. Childish as always.
"Another class is about to start", you said over your shoulder while turning on your feet to enter the classroom.
But, before managing to get one more step, you felt someones grip on your wrist, making you turn your face around to see Baji's rather serious expression,
"You helped me", his eyes gleamed with determination, "and I want to thank you"

"It's okay Baji"

His nose scrunched for a moment hearing you still calling him by his last name. That was one of the many signs he took that you both still weren't on the same page. He is going to fix everything.
"Let me treat you to dinner after you're done with work"

He took Chifuyu's advice.
Yes, dinner sounded way more date like, but what could he do? You had work all the time, and lunch would be impossible in this situation. Okay, maybe he wanted for it to be more meaningful than he intended it to be.

"I'll pick you up with my bike, okay?"

You only nodded in affirmation and he let go of your wrist. Thinking about all this closeness between you two, got you feeling all sorts of things. It even made you remember the random hugs you used to give him when you were kids.
Now when they were older, sounded inappropriate to even think about.
But you didn't want to lie to yourself that you didn't want to hug him meaningfully just one more time, but possibly bothering him made you reduct the thought in an instant.

Both boys rushed towards their classroom so they wouldn't get scolded by the teacher, while the girl watched them clumsily leave as they nudged each other with their elbows.

If only she knew how one of them smiled just more brighter than the other one.

For the rest of the day, she couldn't stop thinking about the dinner he suggested.

If only he knew that he made her smile even more.
