You watched out the kitchen window as Rip saddled up his horse. He was going to teach your three year old son how to ride a horse. It did scare you but you knew he was in good hands.

"Daddy"! Briar squealed running down the steps, he stopped at Rips horse and starred.

"You ready, buddy"? Rip smiled. Briar was the spitting image of Rip, except for his eyes. He got those from you.

"Big". Briar pointed to the horse.

Rip chuckled. "Yeah, but he wont hurt you. I've been riding him for years and he hasnt hurt daddy". Rip picked his son up and sat him on the saddle. "Hold the rope with both hands". Rip instructed his son.

"I'm scared". Briars bottom lip began trembling.

"Daddys here. I'm not gonna let anything happen to you. I promise". Rip held Briars back as he walked along beside his horse.

"Okay". Briar sniffled and wiped his tears. He wanted to be a tough and rough cowboy like his dad and his bunkhouse uncles and aunt. They weren't afraid and neither was he.

"You're doing great. Remember hold on to the rope". Rip circled the horse around the yard.

You saw Briar was a little afraid so you walked out onto the porch. "He okay"?

"I'm fine, mommy". Briar answered before Rip could. Which eased the worry.

"He's doing great, babe".  Rip gleamed proudly. Briar has been around horses his whole life but would never ride them. Now he was taking a step into becoming a cowboy.

"That's so wonderful. Great job, baby boy". You cheered from the porch.

"Thanks momma". Briar let one hand go of the rope and ran his hand down the horses neck, petting him. "Good job, boy".

"You wanna give him a treat"? Rip asked Briar.

"Yeah. Can I"?

Rip stopped his horse and brought Briar down. "Go get a carrot". Rip walked up the steps behind Briar as he took off inside.

"Great job to you too, dad". You laid your head on Rips shoulder as he wrapped his arm around your waist.

"Thanks". Rip smiled.

"Got two". Briar dashed past and fed one carrot to the horse and he ate the other.

"What do you think about having another"? Rip asked looking at his son.

"Another what? Horse"?

"Nah, another kid"? He turned his head and looked you in the eyes.

"Really? Yeah, I could be up for it".

"We should have another one. It'll be good". Rip kissed your head.

"Alright".

"Momma? Daddy? Can I get a horse"? Briar asked with a mouth full of carrot.

"We'll see. We got something else coming soon". Rip replied.

The two of you watched Briar pet and love on the horse. Rip knew he was going to get a horse for him. He could just see them riding together. All four of us.
