fourteen|Impatient

"Do you really think it's out there? Like, no bullshit?"  Pope questioned.

We were all out in the dark, laying in hammocks. Kie had the ukulele and was laying on the hammock with Pope. John B, JJ and I were in the other hammock, I laid next to JJ, our arms were linked as I traced random squiggles on his bicep. It was so dark, you couldn't see the others faces, it was slightly unsettling.

"Our father thought it was."

"But do you?"

"After hearing his voice on that tape..."

I sighed, looking up at JJ's face. From what I could see he slightly smiled, taking the random flower I had in my other hand and putting it behind my ear.

"...I think I do."

"Me too." I smiled and looked back to John B's dark figure laying across from me.

"Look, we're gonna find it, you know?" Kie adds, "Even JJ believes."

"JJ?!" I gasp cupping his chip with my hands making him face me, "Do you really believe?" I joke.

"I believe what you do." He bites his bottom lip. I was quick to push away his face gently, giggling with him. "Wait, we're talking about the four mil?"

"Four hundred mil." Kie and Pope corrects him.

"Jinx." Kie grins.

"I'm gonna dream about shipwrecks." JJ sighs putting an arm around my shoulder.

"Hmm. I'm going to dream about a day where JJ does something sane."

"Haha. Good night bird."

"Good night, bird shit!" John B smiles.

The next morning, of course because the universe hates me, I was called into work. I was so upset I couldn't go with the gang to look for the Merchant but I haven't worked for a couple days so, I need money.

When I got to work I was greeted by Ms. Everylyn. She, first, brought me to her office upstairs to give me my pay check. Then, when I came back down, Sarah Cameron, the Kook princess jumped from behind one of the racks.

"Surprise!" She had jazz hands out.

I giggled, "What's up?"

"Well, I thought you were working so I came in but, to my surprise you weren't. Then, I begged  Ms. Everlyn to call you in because....We need to go dress shopping!"

"Sarah-"

"Don't 'Sarah' me! I invited you, I'm not gonna leave you hanging. Plus, your dress is on me."

"What?! Sarah, really, it's fine-"

"No. If John B yelling at me made me realize anything it's that you clearly need to use money for your family. Sooo, I got you on this one." She cheekily smiled.

"I- Finee." I Dragged out, hugging her with her with her open arms.

We walked out of the store and I mouthed a "Thank you" to Ms. Everlyn and Sarah drove us to a small mall nearby. On the way we listened to a throwback playlist and yelled to all the old songs.

After going through a bunch of dresses in one shop, then another, and another, Sarah found hers. And I found mine.

We both stood in front of the mirrors in our dresses. Sarah had a long white, off the shoulder dress. And I had a long, silk, emerald dress. They both fitted us perfectly.
