Going Down

A few hours later, we were at the stage where we were to compete in the final battle, testing out equipment. Also there was Fluttershy's pet bunny, Angel. I still couldn't shake that bad feeling I was getting in my gut. Twilight looked at me in concern and asked, "are you okay, Garrett?" I shook my head and said, "I don't know Twilight, I have a bad feeling about this... what if you're all being set up?" Fluttershy nodded and said, "I have to agree with Garrett. None of this makes any sense. Weren't we practically awful? Doesn't anybody else think it's strange that we're the ones that made it to the finals?"

"Very strange," said Trixie who suddenly showed up with her bandmates. "What are you doing here Trixie? Pretty sure the losers are supposed to be up there on the cheap seats," taunted Rainbow. "The Great and Powerful Trixie is the most talented girl in Canterlot High!" Trixie said, "it is I who deserved to be in the finals! And I will not be denied!" I rolled my eyes and said, "seriously? Again, with referring to yourself to the third person?" Suddenly, one of Trixie's bandmates pulled a lever that caused the bottom of the stage to open and we all fell down into the bottom. Except for Angel, strangely enough. "Ow..." I muttered. Trixie laughed, "see you never!" And then the trapdoor was closed. "Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!" I asked incredulously. We were stuck down there for hours and could hear Trixie's band playing up above. For the first hour, Rainbow tried to destroy the locked door by throwing herself there. No dice. "Let me try." I suggested, "I'll use my head to destroy that door."

"Are you sure that's a good idea, Garrett?" Rarity asked, "nobody wins with a headbutt, and you could suffer a nasty concussion, darling!"  I smirked and protested, "nonsense! We Shimmers are stubborn and strong! What could possibly go wrong?" I then headbutt the door, hoping it would smash open. WHAM! It didn't work. I spun around and sang in a dopey voice, "look at this stuff, isn't it neat? Wouldn't you think my collection's complete? Wouldn't you think I'm the pony who has everything?" And then I was out like a lump seeing stars. But I could have sworn I heard Twilight singing the rest of the song. A couple hours later I regained consciousness. "Did it work?" I slurred in a groggy voice. "No, it didn't," said Twilight, "sorry Garrett." I rubbed my tender head and said, "darn. Well that's the last time I use my head for brute strength." Rainbow kept on trying to destroy the locked door open, with absolutely no results. "Give it up, Rainbow Dash," said Applejack,  "you've been tryin' this for hours. It's not gonna open." Twilight looked down and sadly said, "maybe it doesn't matter that we're trapped down here... I don't think the counterspell could have worked anyway..."

"Course it woulda worked Twilight." AJ said before glaring at Rainbow, "assumin' a certain band member didn't try to hog the spotlight the whole time we were tryin' to play it!" Dash got offended and snapped, "hey! If you wanna tell Twilight she's getting a little too caught up trying to be the new leader of this band, you don't have to be all cryptic about it." Rarity glared and argued, "she was talking about YOU, Rainbow Dash..." Twilight awkwardly stepped away. "Me?!?!?!" Dash asked incredulously, "I'm just trying to make sure my band rocks as hard as it needs to." That's when all the girls yelled at Rainbow Dash, "OUR BAND!!!!!" Twilight sat down and asked anxiously, "but why wasn't it working? I should know what to do! How can I not know what to do?? How could I have failed like this?" I sat next to Twilight, trying to comfort her as best I could. "It might have been your idea to start a band," said Applejack, "but it's not just YOUR BAND, Rainbow Dash!!!"

"I'm the one who writes all the songs!" Rainbow argued. "I write songs!" Fluttershy protested, "you just never let us play any of them!" Rarity then said, "I had THE most perfect outfits for us to wear!" Applejack got annoyed and groaned, "again with the costumes! No-one cares what we're wearin'!" Rarity countered, "I CARE APPLEJACK! So sorry if I enjoy trying to make a creative contribution to the band!" Pinkie then snapped, "hey! Anybody here remember fun?!?!?! I'LL GIVE YOU A HINT!!!! IT'S THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF BEING IN THE RAINBOOMS!!!!" Rainbow growled, "I wish I'd never asked any of you to be in my band!" Rarity yelled, "I WISH I'D NEVER AGREED TO BE IN IT!!!" Fluttershy and Applejack said in angry unison, "me neither!" That's when all five girls got so angry and incensed, they started bickering, arguing, and yelling at each other. I could see the green mist, clearly giving The Dazzlings more power. Now I know what's going on. "STOP!!!" I shouted, getting all of their attention, "you have to stop! This is what they've been after all along! They're feeding off of the magic inside you!"

"How can they be usin' our magic? It's the magic of friendship," said Applejack. "Look, I don't know a lot about you girls," I said, "but ever since you started this band, I've noticed that you've been letting little things get to you. I should've said something, but I didn't as I felt it wasn't in my place to protest. But I know that if you don't work out even the smallest problems right at the start, the magic of friendship could be turned into something else!" Twilight stood up and softly said, "I can't believe all this tension was happening right under my nose and I didn't realize it! I'm supposed to be the one with all the answers. And all I've done since I got here is let you down..." I put my hand around Twilight's shoulder and said, "I don't think anyone is supposed to have all the answers. But you can count on your friends to help you find them." Twilight smiled and said, "I think you already have. Come on! We need to get out of here!" We all struggled to open the door until it knocked and opened on its own. Outside was Angel and Vinyl Scratch! Fluttershy beamed and hugged her bunny, saying, "Angel! I'm so glad to know you're alright!" That is one smart bunny. "How did your bunny manage to unlock the door?" I asked. That's when Vinyl Scratch walked in. "Why isn't Vinyl Scratch under their spell?" Twilight asked. I realized and heartily laughed, "of course! She never takes off her headphones!" Vinyl smiled and gave a thumbs-up. "Come on y'all!" AJ said, "time ta prove we've still got the magic of friendship inside us!" Twilight smiled and replied, "and there's only one way to do it." Pinkie excitedly asked, "we're getting the band back together?" Rainbow Dash smiled and replied, "we're getting OUR band back together." Pinkie squealed in excitement. "Oooh! Which version of the counterspell are we going to play?" Rarity asked. "I don't think it matters what song we play," said Twilight, "as long as we play together, as friends!" Rainbow smiled and said, "I know just the song! Fluttershy's written a really great one." Fluttershy gasped excitedly. Dash looked at Fluttershy and said, "hey I'm sorry for ignoring your suggestions Fluttershy. You're a good writer." This caused Fluttershy to hold Dash's hand. "We're about ta save the world here," said Applejack, "personally, Ah think we should do it in style. Rarity?" The fashionista beamed and said, "I thought you'd never ask!" She then quickly pulled out a full bevy of costumes. But then I realized, "uh... Since I'm the only stallion, I mean, man in this group, I think I'll go outside and give you ladies some privacy..." I covered my eyes and got out to respect the Rainbooms' privacy. I'm not some orange perverted buffoon with a stupid toupee. A few minutes later, Twilight and the Rainbooms came out with brand new dresses made by Rarity.

"What do you think Garrett?" Rarity asked. "You all look good ladies." I replied, "I think I'm done tolerating all of you." The five girls gasped in concern. I smiled and continued, "because now I can consider you all my friends." We all then went into a group hug. "You're the best, Garrett." Twilight said before kissing me on the cheek. I blushed and said, "I owe you for that kiss later. But for now, go get 'em, Rainbooms!"
