That night before the wedding they slept in separate rooms, not because of any sense of propriety but because they wanted to start their marriage fresh. Bucky suggested it as a symbol of a new beginning for both of them. In the morning someone would pick them up and drive them to the church. They would be married in a short ceremony, then have a luncheon at his parent's home. After that they would have a honeymoon at home and on Monday he would take the subway to Manhattan and report for desk duty with the SSR. That's how it was originally planned.
Surprisingly he fell asleep quickly and awoke refreshed. He gave himself a close shave, then added a little bit of aftershave. After he put a spot of Brylcreem in his hand and ran it through his hair he combed it, making sure his part was straight. Hopping back to the spare bedroom he started putting his uniform on. Kate pressed his clean uniform shirt earlier as it was wrinkled from being in his duffel bag. He could hear her with John in the nursery, her muffled voice coming through the wall, although if he listened closely he could pick out words. She was probably feeding him, then changing him into a little outfit. Then he heard her move back to the bedroom and he imagined her removing her robe, revealing that beautiful pair of breasts that were something else.
"Stop it Bucky," he said to himself. "You'll put yourself into quite the state."
He smiled to himself and continued dressing. Before he left he put the wedding ring and the marriage license in his pocket. Then he hopped downstairs to wait for his bride.
Upstairs, Kate continued with her preparations. John sat on the bed watching his mother get ready. Kate gave John some mashed banana the morning before and he liked it, so she thought he might be ready for solid foods. When she mentioned banana he tried to say it which made her laugh. His parents were going to keep him overnight taking several prepared bottles of breast milk for him but she would remember to tell them about the banana.
She was putting her nylons on, making sure the seam on the back was straight. Howard had given them to her in private at Christmas but told her not to tell Bucky. They were black market nylons and he wanted her to have them for her wedding day. Then she put on her slip, and finally the new blue dress she thought would be suitable for getting married in. She thought of wearing her pearl drop necklace but decided against it. It was from her past. She put her new blue hat on and drew the netting over her face then decided she didn't like it. The wedding band went into her purse then she looked at John.

"Alright, little man, let's go get married to your dad," she said, scooping up John, and his diaper bag.
Stepping carefully down the stairs she was greeted by Bucky in his uniform. He asked her to turn around and whistled. He noticed her nylons.
"Let me guess, from Howard, right?" he laughed. "I'm not angry. That was good of him to make sure you looked perfect today. I'll thank him while I'm taking them off tonight. These came while I was waiting. Could you put mine on for me?"
