Back at the hotel, we changed into our swimsuits. I took my bikini out of the bag, staring at it. I really didn't want to wear it, but it was too late to get another. I slid it on, looking at myself in the mirror. Paths bikini was dark blue, and little white streaks covering it. I would've looked good, if it weren't for the hideous scars. They stood out like a green hat with an orange bill. I'll just cover it with a shirt.

I stepped out of the bathroom, covering my scars. I rushed out, towards my dresser. Norman and Mingus were chilling on the bed, both of them glancing at me as I rummaged through the dresser for a white tee shirt. When I found one, I slid it over my head. I turned to Norman, smiling. "Ready?" I asked. Norman was wearing a teal blue swimsuit with big white Hawaiian flowers. Mingus wore the same, except orange.

"Why're you wearing a shirt?" Mingus asked. "You're not fat." I blushed, surprised and shocked that he'd say that. "Usually people who wear shirts when they swim are fat." He explained.

"Well, that's because they're ashamed of their bodies." I said.

"So why are you wearing one?" Mingus asked, sitting up. Norman glared at him, but I shot one back. Sighing, I lifted it up, revealing my scars. Mingus gasped, and I felt tears staring to bead in the corners of my eyes. "Those are so cool! What happened?" Mingus asked, sounding excited. Confused, I lowered my shirt.

"My friend got mad that I was dating your father. So she stabbed me." I explained, looking away.

"Oh." Mingus said, looking away awkwardly.

"Yeah. I almost died too." I added, looking away.

"Dad almost died. He was in a car crash in 2005." Mingus stated. I glanced at Norman, shocked. He shrugged.

"Yeah. Now I have metal plates around my left eye. And some by my nose." Norman explained, tapping his left eye. I almost expected to hear a clinking sound.

"Now that sounds cool." I stated, sitting down beside them.

"Yeah. But you have a scar, so you look bad-ass." Mingus stated, sounding proud. Norman shot him a glare, but what Mingus said really warmed my heart. I lifted my shirt, tossing it to the side. "That bikini looks hot on you." Mingus complimented. I smiled at him.

"Yeah, it does." Norman stated, flashing a glare at his son. He scooted closer to me, wrapping his arm around my neck.

...

At the beach, I pulled my phone out. I checked the time. It was 12:42. Luckily, I had packed lunch.

"You guys wanna eat before you swim?" I asked, grabbing the cooler out of the back of Norman's car.

"Sure, I'm starving." Mingus stated, grabbing a bag full of something. Of what, I'm not sure.

"If you wanna." Norman declared, while he was grabbing an umbrella. I nodded, looking around. It was a Monday in April, so no one was really there. It was one of those very rare days where it was warm out, almost ninety degrees. I grabbed my beach bag, glancing around for a spot. There was one close to the shore, so that's where I headed. Norman and Mingus followed, kicking sand up with their feet. I smiled as I got and idea. I started kicking sand at them, acting like I didn't know what I was doing.

"Hey!" They exclaimed. I turned towards them, trying to act confused.

"What?" I asked innocently.
