I paced around my apartment, passport in hand. Today was the 9th, so we were leaving today. I've never been so excited! I hadn't slept at all last night, so I got up at four o'clock to pack. Turns out, so did everyone else. I had my suitcase sitting by the door, waiting for everyone else to show up. I checked my watch. It was 8:32am. We leave at noon!
"Where the hell are they?" I growled to myself. Suddenly, I heard rapid knocking at my door. I opened it to Jessica, Mariah, and Ashely. They were smiling, holding suitcases in their hands. We all squealed at each other.
"Ok, let's go before we miss our flight!" Ashley exclaimed. I grabbed my suitcase and locked the door, taking one last look at my apartment before shutting the door.
...
The terminal was busy. I mean, very busy. Busy as in, you couldn't get a sandwich at the little Subway in under thirty minutes. But luckily, we weren't getting food. We already ate on the way here, and we're just waiting in line for our tickets. We were one of the first people. Just waiting behind some couple, who were holding hands. I noticed the girl moving her hand away from his, closer to his crotch. She eyed him mischievously. They were probably on their honeymoon. I averted my eyes, looking around. The terminal had white walls, with huge glass windows, giving a view of the runway. Every now and then, a plane would land, and another would take off. Finally, the couple got out of line, heading over towards the waiting area, which was to crowded to sit.
"Next." The lady ordered. Jessica stepped foreword, handing the lady her passport.
"Just us four. We already have our passports." She said. The lady inspected the passport. She was around fifty, her light blonde hair streaked with grey. She wore a white blouse with a dark blue bow.
"Ok, you may pass. You're flight B-3. That'll be about a forty minute wait." She said, after inspecting all our passports.
...
On the plane, we were sitting in commercial airway. I was the lucky one, sitting by the window. I looked down at the runway, which looked so far away. Jessica sat next to me, with Ashley on her other side. Mariah had to sit across the aisle. Ashely was bouncing up and down like a little kid. I felt giddy with excitement at the thought of going to Chicago. I've never been there, even though I owned a couple shops there. The pilot spoke to us over an intercom.
"Good afternoon everyone. We are on our way to Hawaii. However, we'll be making a few stops along the way, such as Chicago and L.A. Please turn off all cell phones and other devices for the remainder of the flight. Thank you, and we hope you enjoy your flight with Delta Airlines."
I pulled out my cellphone and held down on the 'off' button, waiting for the 'slide to power off' to appear on the screen. When I turned off my phone, I looked out of the window again. We had started moving forward. I felt my heart beating hard in my chest. The plane increased its speed, and soon, we were slowly lifting off. I squeezed my eyes shut, praying that we'd be fine. I wasn't really afraid of heights, but I was afraid of planes. Sorry, but flying thousands of feet over land in a heavy metal plane wasn't my idea of fun.
...
The plane finally landed. We were in the terminal in Chicago. The terminal wasn't that different from the one in New York. All four of us were sitting in a taxi cab, viewing the enormous city, passing by several huge skyscrapers. Yeah the ones in New York were bigger, but these were impressive too. When we passed by an exceptionally large tower, the taxi driver turned towards us."That there is the Willis Tower. Aka, the Sears Tower." He said in a gruff voice, but his eyes gleamed in a friendly manner. He had a five o'clock shadow, and was wearing a white tank top, his belly budging out slightly. I smiled and looked out the window. The tower soared so high up, that it was unbelievable. Even the 'Barbs Cakes' tower wasn't this big. We gapped in amazement. After about half an hour, we ended up in front of a three star hotel. A young man in a red uniform opened the door for us, smiling as we walked in. I quickly pulled out a twenty dollar bill and handed it to him, thanking him. He smiled brighter and stuffed it into his shirt pocket.
We entered the lobby and were immediately overawed at the view. The hotel may have been three stared, but the lobby was amazing. The floors were made of marble that clicked under my heels. The walls were a creamy color, complimenting the floor. There was a reception desk with a small, thin lady sitting at. She had black hair that was tightly wrapped into a bun. Her bold red lipstick would've been bad, if it hadn't been for the light eyeliner that she was wearing. She flashed a dazzling smile at us as we walked up to the desk.
"Hello! Welcome to the Blue Chester Hotel. Do you have reservations?" She asked in a preppy voice. Jessica stepped foreword, her height slightly increased by the heals she wore.
"Yes. Under, Madison." She said. The lady looked through a guest book, searching for 'Madison.' Finally, she found it.
"Ah, Madison. Party of four?" She asked, smiling. Jessica nodded and the lady handed her a room card. Jessica nodded thanks and walked over towards a stainless steel elevator. She pressed the 'up' button and we stood still, waiting. But on the inside, we were all excited and our inner child was bouncing around. When the elevator finally opened, we piled in and Jessica punched in the floor number. We were on level 6. I felt the excitement surging through my veins as the door closed. Once it shut, I turned towards everyone and squealed. They imitated me and we stood, squealing in an elevator, until we hit the sixth floor. When the door opened, we calmed down and stepped out gracefully. Jessica led us towards a room at the end of the hallway. The floor was lined with red carpet, making me feel like I was on the runway. I smiled to an older couple, who were leaving their room with some rolling suitcases. I pulled mine along, getting excited as Jessica fumbled with the card. She slid it into the door and opened it. We walked in and stood in awe.
The room had two queen sized beds on the right side, each with white sheets and a single red pillow. Beside the beds, was a bedside table on each side, each with a lamp. There was a digital clock on one of them, displaying the time, which was 4:56pm. A flat screen TV hung from a wall across the beds. There was a huge balcony, letting loads of natural light in. We had a good view of the city from here, looking down onto traffic from below. Hundreds of little cars and people lined the streets. I laid my suitcase on one of the beds. I started unpacking it when another thudded next to me. Ashley started to unload hers as well, smiling like an idiot.
"I can't believe this is actually happening!" She exclaimed, pulling out a makeup bag. We all agreed. I pulled out my toothbrush and toothpaste, laying them side by side on the bed. I unloaded my clothes, placing them into a dresser. I took off my fur coat and hung it on a hanger, which was by the door. There was a very small kitchen, with brown granite countertops and a little island. I sighed as I looked around the hotel. This was it. We were here.
