"Well that was...an interesting experience," Gon said, catching his breath from running away from the finger.
"I have no idea where that came from, and why that was there, but I really don't want to know why," I said, also gasping for air. I looked up, looking at where we both were. Gon and I seemed to have made our way back into an unknown hallway, with two possible opinions.
One, we could continue going straight down the larger, well lit hall.
Or two, a little ways down to the right there was a corner, which indicated another path.
"Which way do we want to go now?" I asked, looking at Gon, who seemed to be focused on something in the distance.
"Gon-?"
"Oh yeah, sorry, I was just thinking, it was just kind of strange your butler would leave the two of us alone in a place that neither of us knows." My eyes widened, he just now realized this? Don't tell me he was this stupid.
"Well, it's not everyday that we have someone else from outside come in the palace to begin with." And it was of course, true. We'd never had someone "train" to be a butler before, they just kind of showed up when it was decided you needed one.
Gon shrugged, "I guess we can just walk straight forward until we find something, like a landmark or something we recognize, oh! Like the paintings!" Gon exclaimed, gesturing to the dark blue walls. I nodded, wasn't like we had anything much better to do.
So we walked.
And walked.
And walked some more, she steady sound of footsteps still echoing off the walls. The awkward silence was setting in again.
"How about we take a turn into the next corner we see, just to make sure we're not going in circles," I asked, squinting my eyes to try and see if there was a turn in anywhere near us.
By now the sun had to be set, I mean, it had been almost thirty minutes of being lost. I was starting to get a little hungry too, Reilegh should have let me have that chocolate.
A corridor could be seen a little farther down to the left, and I pointed it out to Gon, who nodded. We turned the corner, and found a what looked like a small door at the end of the short hallway.
"Hey, what's that?" Gon pointed, spotting the door too.
"I dunno, lets try to go through it, could lead to anywhere."
So we ran up to the door, and I took a closer look at it. Dark old wood, and a tarnished round handle. I glanced at Gon before turning the handle, and pushing up against it. Something was keeping the door from opening, maybe a chain or a lock? No, it couldnt be, there was a slight crack between the wall and the door, just enough to peek through. You know, maybe this door is blocked for a reason, we should probably turn around.
"Hey Gon, can you look through the opening here? It's just that maybe its closed for a reason, but just to be sure, it could just be junk."
"Got it!" Gon exclaimed, bending down to peer through the opening.
I pushed the door open a little farther so he could see a bit better.
"Hmmm, it is pretty dark in here, but I can see boxes and other things lying around...ohhh I see whats blocking the door, there, its just a box." I pushed my entire body weight into the hard wood, a load screech sounded from something scraping against the floor as the door flung open.
Gon, who wasn't ready for it, lost his balance and fell face first into the room.
"Gon! Are you okay? Here," I said, holding out my hand to help him get up, he probably didn't need it though, I felt my ears go scarlet again. But Gon just smiled at me, and took my hand, the rough leather gloved hand made contact with mine.
