Chapter Four

Kierra’s POV

It's been two weeks since we told J. Drew that we would be taking Amber to court. He really didn't give the response that I was expecting though. I'm not sure if my mom noticed it or not, but I'm going to ask her about it. I honestly believe that this is the only way that we would be able see Ja’Layeah. She is five years old and doesn't know who we are. I get that Amber and Drew didn't have the best relationship, but that didn't give Amber the right to keep Ja’Layeah from us. J. Drew and I didn't grow up with a father. Our father was an abusive serial cheater, and our mother didn't want us growing up in that environment. J. Drew vowed that when he has kids, he would make sure that he would be an active father. He even mentioned that he told Amber about our father and for her to even do this to J. Drew, angered me. I just want to be able to see my niece, but if Amber decides to not even cooperate, I can guarantee, I will convince my mom to go for full custody.

I was putting a load of clothes in the washer when my mom text me to come in her office. I walked back upstairs from the basement to her office to see what she needed.

"Hey mommy, what's up." I said as I sat in a chair

"I wanted to ask, if you've heard from Drew?" She asked

"No, I haven't heard from him since we met for breakfast and informed him of our plan." I replied

"Do you think he's upset with us?" She asked

"Nah, I don't think so. But I did want to ask, if you noticed that he really didn't respond the way I expected him too." I asked

"Yeah I noticed that too. Do you think we made the right move?" She asked in a concerned tone

"I believe we do. If we would've allowed Drew to do it, who knows what Amber would've tried to do. With us filing, there's not much she can do without having to talk to Drew."

Before Karen could respond, her cell rang. It was Annalise calling

"Hey, Annalise. You're on speaker, Kierra is sitting here with me." Karen spoke

"Hey, Karen and Ki. I have amazing news." Annalise said

"Go ahead." Karen said

"Drew gave me all the details that I needed and then some, and I'll say roughly by 5 PM this evening, Amber Riley will be served." Annalise said

"That's amazing! How'd you get it that fast?" Kierra asked

"After what Drew told me, I just knew that I couldn't prolong, so I made some calls to a few friends and was able to get her served faster." Annalise replied

"Annalise, I don't know how I could ever thank you." Karen said

"Eh, a nice home cooked meal the way your mom used to cook for us when we were in college." Annalise said

"Yeah, okay you got it. How soon will we have to wait until we start the court proceedings?" Karen asked

"Not long, hopefully I can a hearing started in about a month from now." Annalise answered

"Hey, works for us." Karen said

"Great. Listen, I have to go. I have a meeting in 15 and I haven't finished preparing my notes." Annalise said

"Go ahead and once again thank you so much." Kierra and Karen said

"No problem. Talk soon. " Annalise said before hanging up

“Step One is completed.” Kierra said high fiving her mom

“Now we just have to prepare for the hearing. Are you prepared to see Amber in person?” Karen asked
