Lukas was getting so, so tired of this.

Every single word that Matthias said grated his ears, every gentle touch felt like sandpaper. It wasn't because he didn't relish every moment spent with him; actually, that was precisely what it was. He was so guilty over lying, so guilty for shoving Matthias away when all he wanted was for him to be closer.

He wanted to hide in Matthias' warm, comforting arms forever; he didn't want to feel this way anymore, like he was burning and melting away.

Oh, gods, he loved this boy.

He felt his heart leap at the sound of the phone ringing--today they had both scored days off, yet again. Originally, they were supposed to be going to Alfred's house for a cookout, but Matthias had cancelled those plans at the last minute, so Lukas wasn't exactly sure what they were going to be doing. He only knew that Matthias was really excited about it.

He snatched up the phone with such enthusiasm that he nearly dropped it, but he managed to catch it and held it to his ear, uttering a nonchalant greeting.

"Hej, Luka!"

"So, when are you coming by?"

Matthias chuckled, and Lukas' heart fluttered. It seemed Matthias couldn't do anything without turning Lukas into a blushing mess. "I'll be there in a couple minutes. It's windy, so don't wear shorts or anything--and it'll be about an hour's drive, hope you're okay with that."

"No way, I'm not letting your crazy ass drive for an hour," Lukas protested, sure he'd end up with an awful stomach ache.

Matthias whined, "It'll be a smooth drive!"

Lukas couldn't help but smile, Matthias was like a little puppy. "Nothing's a smooth drive with you. It can still be a surprise if I drive part of the way and you drive the rest."

"Will you promise to keep the blindfold on, then?"

"Blindfold?"

"Yeah, for the surprise!" Matthias sounded so giddy about whatever thing he was planning; even though Lukas knew that Matthias had the tendency to exaggerate and that the surprise probably wasn't that cool, he felt the excitement rubbing off on him.

Not to mention, Matthias was so adorable when he was excited like this. He'd never grown out of his childlike wonder, and that was one of the many things Lukas loved about him.

"All right, all right, I'll wear the blindfold." Lukas briefly wondered what exactly he'd gotten himself into, but decided not to ask. "Can I have a hint where we're going?"

"You already got two! It's an hour away and it'll be a little chilly!"

"Plenty of places are an hour away and chilly," Lukas sighed out, rolling his eyes even though Matthias couldn't see. "Anything more specific than that?"

"Nah! Just be ready." Click.

Annoyed and flustered, Lukas hung up the phone and decided to change out of his shorts and into his favorite pair of jeans, throwing on one of the flannels that Matthias had left behind during one of his last visits--it still smelled like him, like apples and that stupid cologne that smelled so good it was dizzying.

After getting dressed, he headed outside, sitting on the front stoop to wait for Matthias to get there and busying himself with cleansing them of dirt. He hoped his slip-on Vans would be good enough for whatever Matthias was planning; then again, their trips usually didn't involve a lot of walking. Vans definitely weren't walking shoes by any means, so hopefully today wasn't the day Matthias decided they had to exercise.
