Iris was making her way through the summer days
Sweeping floors and dusting vases
Making lunch and cleaning tables
Her hatred for that place was unimaginable
But somehow she found that life tolerable
When she would look in the eyes of her family
And saw the reflection of a soul that was happy
But one August day
The train ran off the rail
Arthur's eyes screamed in anguish
His lips were painted with dirty kisses
His heart pumped disloyalty and tension
Iris burned in anxiety and suspicion
Sitting next to each other
They felt like a mile apart
Arthur was leaving the house
Iris built in her heart
Arthur was easy to read
And Iris jumped to conclusions
But she begged her mind
To think they were illusions
She knew his boat was about to start sinking
She wanted to be wrong, to just stop thinking
Iris tried to lose her thoughts
By finding peace in the eyes of her kids
David owned joy that never stopped
But Jackie's eyes evoqued anything but bliss
Iris had memorized her daughter
Each thought, look and laughter
She knew Jackie was a genius
Behind a disappointing diagnosis
The girl's eyes told her mother
That something isn't right
It erased the last bit of peace in her
And robbed the map to her mind
For a while they defined a broken marriage
Arthur's behavior rusted their love carriage
Iris waited patiently because she knew in time
She'll gather more evidence to analyze
He was fading away, the days were quick sand
Arthur saw the invisible blood on his hands
And cried because he knew he was gonna do it again
